With Great Love

Sometimes Mother’s Day can be hard if we don’t have a Mother to celebrate it with. But we can all celebrate motherly acts done by others. Here is a mixed media journal page celebrating Mother Theresa. I use an “acrylic & alcohol technique” to create some unique elements on this page.
Time: 1 hour + dry time
Apply gold metallic acrylic paint to the page. Let dry.
Place a crackle stencil over the page and sponge with StazOn Azure ink. Let dry.
Place Mini Bricks stencil at the top of the journal page. Spray with Lilac Walnut ink. Let dry.
Place a stencil with small holes on the journal page and sponge Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Set aside to dry. You can be working on the following steps between these first four journal background steps.
Cut four – 1/2 x 4 1/4 inch pieces out of white cardstock. Cut an additional 2 x 3 inch piece and any additional pieces you may want. Place all cut white cardstock pieces on a craft mat. Apply StazOn Blazing Red ink by the direct-to-paper technique which means using your inkpad directly on the paper. Next mix a 50/50 liquid acrylic in Primary Cyan color and water. Apply the mixture to the dry Azure inked base pieces. While the paint mixture is WET drip rubbing alcohol over the wet paint. TIP: complete this step in small batches to ensure the paint doesn’t dry. The image on the bottom is the end results of the ‘Acrylic & Alcohol Technique’.
Arrange the narrow strips in a loose weave pattern. Cut a 3 inch circle out of old music sheet. Sponge the edges with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Fix the circle to the front of the strips, and the 2 x 3 piece over that. TIP: The glittery gold piece is from my scrap pile. When you cut out your music sheet, save the scraps for later use.
Stamp sentiment with Memento Tuxedo Black onto cream cardstock and punch out with small tag. Apply washi tape to one end of the tag. Sponge the edges with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
Mount the layered piece to the journal page. Mount the sentiment piece as well. I used more of my scrap pile to punch out some butterflies, as well as printing and fussy cutting a larger one for the centerpiece. Shade the main image and journal edges with a Black brush pen. Adhere clear sequins or embellishments of choice to the journal page.
