This Labor Day Paint the Town Red!

Blonde Bombshell

By Roni Johnson

A labor day themed card featuring a watercolored blonde bombshell painting some die cut starts red white and blue in this cute shaker card handmade by Roni Johnson.

Labor Day is always a nice three day holiday after the long dry spell from the 4th of July through August. I love having parties on this long weekend! This patriotic blond beauty will help you and your guests get into the spirit of things by painting the old red, white and blue. There’s also a fun way to add a good bit of dimension to your piece by combining a few die-cuts and irRESISTible Pico Embellishers.

I started out by water coloring in the bombshell using Memento Dual-Tip Markers and a water brush. You can just lay some ink out on your Craft Mat and pull it up with your water brush. I used the Peach Fabrico marker for her skin tone.

After I fussy cut her out, I added some dimension to the red paint dripping down the side of the paint can, paint brush and the white dots on the bathing suit.

I then die cut multiple stars, adhering them together in different amounts to make dimensional stars of varying heights. I coated the tops of my stars with Pico Embellishers. On the largest star, I decided to make that a shaker, so I colored a single layer large star, and only colored part way to suggest that the blonde wasn’t finished painting it.

To make the shaker, adhere the star stack to your cardstock, shake in some star confetti, adhere the acetate, and finally your partially colored top layer. I chose a blue card base and the sentiment “it’s party time”. I adhered the blonde with some double-sided stick foam tape.

Have a great holiday weekend! Here is the list of supplies used in the making of this super fun project.
