We love happy accidents! These two projects by Mischelle Smith and Renee Zarate have three things in common: “Delight”, fairies and a touch of wintergreen. While our artists were challenged to use or color of the month, wintergreen, the rest is kismet. We couldn’t help but share them together!

This month Imagine challenged all Artists in Residence with the theme “new beginnings.” Our color of the month is Wintergreen. Each of the challenges sparkled (yes, sparkled) my interest and I immediately knew that I wanted to incorporate sparkly Delicata inks into my project. White Shimmer, with a kiss of Silver Shimmer, is the perfect companion to every shade of wintergreen mint. And it’s not a party until Golden Glitz arrives! I could hardly wait to incorporate it into my project! I have never had a metallic gold pigment inkpad that is as stunning as Golden Glitz – I love this ink!
So, here is to new beginnings!

Part of the fun of mixed media projects is combining different colors to come up with new signature palettes. When making small art projects, it doesn’t take a lot of product, and it is an opportunity to try different techniques for a powerful statement. In this case, I was playing with two different Iridescent Creative Medium pastes to achieve a wintergreen color. Applying the paste to a piece of black cardstock really makes it pop.
Using a different Fantastix tool for each color, I colored around the image with Memento New Sprout, Desert Sand, Summer Sky and Angel Pink ink. Spritz with Sheer Shimmer Frost spray and then blend with a paint brush. Edge the ATC with Brilliance Pearlescent Rust ink using a Sponge Dauber.
I then matted the ATC panel onto black card stock cut ½” larger than the stamped panel, then cut a piece of patterned paper ½” larger and adhere the stamped, matted panel. After applying GlazOn gloss finish to the bubbles in the stamped image, I allowed it to dry thoroughly.
Using a Scotty palette knife, I combine 2 Iridescent Creative Medium pastes together to achieve a wintergreen color. Blue and Chartreuse Green are good colors to combine in equal amounts, mixed with a palette knife on a paper plate or a piece of deli paper to get a lovely greenish blue hue.
I cut the stenciled, black dotted paper and tore the bottom of the paper to leave an enough space at the bottom of the card to stamp “delight” using Black Shimmer Delicata ink. The rest of the stenciled black card stock can be used to make additional cards in a series by coloring different images on the ATC and stamping different words at the bottom of the card.
