I recently had a ‘new beginning’ when I moved. Being in a new home there are always adjustments to be made—especially crafty ones. My new studio needed a catchy sign on the door to let visitors know a little of what’s going on inside. In the moving process, I discovered supplies that have been hidden from my eyes for years and decided to put them to good use. My steampunk wall hanging could be used as a decoration or a practical place to hang keys, not just these antique ones.
Time: 1 hour + drying time
Paint an 8” by 10” canvas black with Chalkboard paint.
Use a couple of sheets of coordinated patterned papers and cut out coffee cup shape, border and background mats. Cut a small piece of manila cardstock to stamp phrase.
Glue 6 ½” by 6 ½” square piece of blue paper on the top portion of the black canvas. Glue an additional panel measuring 6 ½” by 2” to the lower portion of the canvas. Glue the cardboard cardstock, the cup, and the 2” by 6” border paper onto the upper panel. Decorate panel with metal gears, numerals, and beads. On the lower panel attach light bulbs and glass vials filled with coffee beans using a strong adhesive. Adhere the clock key to the top of the canvas and the metal corners using a strong adhesive.
Stamp phrase on 1 ¾” by 2 ½” manila panel with Memento LUXE Tuxedo Black ink, and emboss using Imagine’s Black Embossing Powder. Distress the edges of the panel with Memento Desert Sand and Memento LUXE Teal Zeal ink using a Sponge Dauber.
Using a Sponge Dauber and Delicata metallic inks, distress the metal pieces on the canvas and distress the edges of the black canvas.
Attach eye rings on the bottom of the canvas; attach fasteners with keys hanging from them, using new or old keys.
