One snowy afternoon in December we had an amazing family photo shoot, the lighting was perfect with just a hint of snow flashing through our photos. (A little patience and lots of shots with a tripod and delay shutter can get yield a Christmas card worthy image.) I was really pleased with this photo and wanted to highlight it for our color challenge this month at Imagine. Changing the image to black and white really makes the light pink accent color pop. The subtle color of Creative Medium in Iridescent Pink behind the photo helps tie the layout together as well as creating a shimmery color for black die cuts. A little texture complemented the design by pressure embossing and staining a strip of Vertigo. Memento Angel Pink glossy die cut accents add the finishing details.

Skill: Advanced
Time: 90 minutes plus dry time

Directions

Step 1

Spread a thick layer of Creative Medium in Iridescent Pink with a palette knife or embossing paste spreader on a piece of black cardstock. This will be used for the sentiment die cuts. Set aside to dry, this may take several hours or overnight.

Step 2

Using a stencil spread Creative Medium in Iridescent Pink on a 12” x 12” piece of white cardstock. Concentrate on the outer edges that will frame the photo as a focal point. Set aside to dry.

Step 3

Trim a section of Vertigo (plastic-like surface) to 1 ¾” x 10 ¾” and pressure emboss with a heart embossing folder, Sizzix Hearts & Dots is used here. The design allows the Vertigo to be turned and embossed the full length.

Step 4

Gently tap a small amount of StazOn Blazing Red on the raised side of the Vertigo. Spritz with All Purpose Stamp Cleaner and wipe with a paper towel. This will create a light pink color stain on the Vertigo. (A happy accidental discovery!) StazOn will adhere to Vertigo’s plastic surface while waterbased or pigment inks will not.

Step 8

Stamp sentiment in Delicata Black Shimmer and heat emboss with Iridescent Embossing Powder.

Step 9

Die cut word sentiments from black cardstock covered in Creative Medium in Iridescent Pink.

Step 10

Again, the choices in shimmery products from Delicata to Vertigo will create an engaging effect. When you have guests over and they see this frame on the wall they may ask, “How did you do that?!”
