Adding décor to preschoolers bedrooms is sometimes a tough challenge. Decor needs to be able to withstand the playfulness of a child while bringing a bit of imagination to the space. I chose to create a papercraft T-Rex dinosaur in shimmer, black and green as a solution to this problem. By using a Creative Medium Shimmer to decoupage, the décor becomes tough, playful and creative!

Skill: Beginner
Time: 30 minutes + dry time

Step 1

Cut out strips of green tissue paper then cut strips into smaller squares.

Step 2

Apply a small portion of Creative Medium Shimmer with a paint brush to the body of the dinosaur. Adhere square tissue paper over the medium. Continue to cover the dinosaur with tissue paper until the entire body is covered. Creative Medium dries quickly when thinly applied.

Step 3

Take one of Imagine’s InkBlushers and dab with Tuxedo Black Memento ink to create scales on the dinosaur. The thick end of the Ink Blusher can be used for covering the large open areas while the thin edge can be used for the fine details around the feet.

Step 4

Add eyes to the dinosaur by using the Fantastix and Memento ink. Draw an eye on either side of the head. Let dry. Add any other fun details to make it personal.

Step 5

Once fully covered, apply a thick layer of Creative Medium over all the tissue paper to seal any remaining bits of paper and to also create a smooth surface. Let dry. Display and let the T-rex spark your young one’s exploration of the Jurassic period!
