See How to Make a Mixed Media Birthday Card

Magenta is Color of the Month at Imagine and what better way to show off this wonderful color than by crafting a mixed media birthday card. In this project, I combined magenta, shimmery red, orange and black ink and paints for a really fun and vibrant color combination. To make it extra special, I added some gold for glamor and finished with sewing and sequins. This project is with a doubt more than magenta and shows the bright pink to its full potential!

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 1 hour + dry time

Directions

Step 1

For the top panel, create a color background on parchment paper using orange and magenta acrylic paint. Leave to dry.

Step 2

Use a jumbo dauber and Memento Luxe Rose Bud and blend over the entire piece of background paper filling in the open spaces in between the paint.

Step 3

Use a sponge dauber and Brilliance ink and blend a pattern through a stencil. The Pearlescent Poppy (red) creates a beautiful shimmery contrast to the pink.

Step 4

Use a large background stamp and VersaFine Onyx Black and stamp over the magenta, orange, and red background.

Step 5

Use a smaller background stamp (stars pattern) and add additional stamped images in VersaFine, Memento Luxe and Brilliance using all the different ink pads. Heat set all the inks with a heat gun.

Step 6

Once the top panel is finished, you have the option to mount on a plain white cardbase or if you have extra time ink the cardbase with the same star stencil and ink colors. Mount top panel to the cardbase. You can often find really cool pieces like this Happy Birthday banner flag sentiment in with scrapbook paper or kits. There are endless options such as these at craft stores. Simply attach a die cut or fussy cut birthday sentiment with a basic stitch setting on your sewing machine. Finish the design with small flowers and sequins.
