August has arrived and we have a beautiful color for this month—Teal. We felt that after the bright summer colors of Tangerine and Pineapple we offered in June and July that we would cool it down a bit for any August heat waves you might experience! Teal reminds us of peacock feathers, the ocean, turquoise stones, glacial lakes, and other natural wonders. To be a bit more technical, teal is a tertiary color that is created by mixing blue and green. With this wide open interpretation of teal, we are excited to see what our artist have cooked up!
Hand Lettering Hawking Quote by Tenia Nelson
“Quiet people have the loudest minds.” I love this quote by Stephen Hawking! And I wanted to use it in a hand lettered art, so I busted out my ink options and got to work. I wanted to single out two words in one color and write the rest of the words in black. For “quiet” and “loudest”, I used All-Purpose ink Tropical Lagoon and a Fantastix. This thick juicy ink that works great on paper, and when you apply it with a Fantastix, it acts very much like a marker. For the rest of the lettering and outlining, I used the Black Fabrico marker in different styles. Since the Fabrico has two different tips to work with, I was able to get the thick and thin line results you see in the photo above. I then used an aqua brush to splatter some Memento Teal Zeal ink to give the page a bit of a dynamic look.
Try this technique on your own favorite quote and have an inspiring day!!
Summer Reading Ocean Theme Bookmark by Renee Zarate
The Dog Days of August make me want to head down to the beach with a good, old fashioned paperback novel for which I need a bookmark. This bookmark is made with images cut from Graphic 45 paper called “Voyage Beneath the Sea,”dies from Sizzix, a masterboard made from a variety of Imagine and Tsukineko products and Bristol paper. The bulk of the time to make this bookmark was spent on the background master board which I will reuse for other projects. Then I assembled all the elements from the Voyage set and add my own embellishments. Enjoy your summer reading!

Teal Tea Candle Holders by Kyriakos Pachadiroglou
Having a BBQ or outdoor summer party? Decorate an outdoor table with tea light candle holders using Teal Blue StazOn ink. Choose an empty glass and using your hot glue gun write a word directly on the side of the candle holder. You can also use masking tape to cover parts of the glass, creating a striped effect. When you finish with the tape and the glue, cover the whole surface with your favorite StazOn color using a sponge dauber. Let it dry well and then coat with irRESISTible wedding dress color on the inside of the glass for an opaque look. Alternatively, leave only the StazOn color for a more transparent result. The tape and the glue gun writing serve as a resist for the StazOn ink, so when all the ink is dry simply remove the tape and the hot glue.
