Unicorns are pure magic! They are not constrained by the normal colors. They can embody pink, purple, iridescent sparkly colors and even gold! In today’s blog post, Imagine artists Tenia and Alison create two delightful mystical unicorn themed cards using ink blending, embossing and ink sprays. See what they have to say about these magical beasts!
Die Cut Unicorn Awesomeness by Tenia Nelson
Hey, Y’all! Tenia here from Jazzy Paper Designs with a magical and shiny Mystic Unicorn card made with Imagine and Tsukineko products. I really enjoyed making this card so here are some pointers on how I did it!
Create card from white cardstock and spray and splatter various Fireworks craft sprays to create an ink splatter texture. I choose Dandelion, Bahama Blue, Lady Bug for a nice primary colors theme. Stamp the unicorn image with Delicata Golden Glitz and heat emboss onto watercolor paper. Die cut unicorn with the matching die. There are several unicorn and matching die sets to choose from, but I personally like the Unicorn Bundle from Concord & 9th. Feel free to go with your own personal favorite stamp set!
Next, I added detail to the unicorn’s mane and tail with a watercolor technique using Fabrico marker in Lemon Yellow and an aqua brush.
Stamp the sentiment “Your Awesomeness Rivals that of a Unicorn” included in the Unicorn Bundle onto the card front with Tuxedo Black Ink. The sentiment perfectly frames around the unicorn. To add all the finishing touches, adhere die cut unicorn onto the card, add sequins, add washi and sticker stitches and you have completed mystical awesomeness! Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!!!

Mystical Unicorn Ink Blended Card by Alison Heikkila
Greetings! This month, the theme given to the Artists in Residence from Imagine is “Mystical.” This is right up my alley and I could have done an entire series of Mystical things. But I decided to reign myself in and work with a beautiful unicorn from Stampendous.
I stamped the unicorn on to Mixed Media Paper because it really helps the Memento Markers move and blend. I die cut the image with a die larger than I would typically use because I wanted to create an inked border with the die size that fits the image. I die cut a mask with the smaller die and temporarily taped it on. Using a sponge dauber, I applied Summer Sky ink, and then Nautical Blue.
My background was created on Smooth Bristol paper. I swiped my Vineyard Kalediacolor across my Craft Mat. I only swiped it once to avoid mixing the colors on the ink pad itself. Then, I sprayed the ink with a combination of Sheer Shimmer Spritz in Sparkle and Ink Potion No. 9. Next, I dragged the Bristol paper through the wet ink. I dried it with my heat tool and tapped it into the ink again. This process was repeated a couple of times until I was satisfied with the background. Using the powder tool, I rubbed it across the bottom of my background so that I could emboss my sentiment better.
I used a Deep Indigo cardstock for my card base, applied a line of Tear It Tape along the right side and sprinkled Multi Crystal Glitter Mix. I applied my layers and added a few deep blue sequins with On Point Glue. Seriously, if you haven’t tried this adhesive, you are missing out.
That’s my card for today. Have an inspiring day!
