Happy Birthday Mermaid Card

A cheerful green birthday card featuring a watercolored Mermaid made using Memento Dual Tip Markers, Kaleidacolor ink and irRESISTible Pico Embellishers by Roni Johnson

By the sea where everything is beautiful…this darling little mermaid is sending off birthday wishes in a lovely monochromatic color scheme. Kaleidacolor, Memento inks and markers, and irRESISTible Pico Embellishers come together quickly and easily with a few handy techniques.

Step 1

Tear washi tape into thin strips; adhere to a blank card panel in a desired design. Mask off any areas of the panel that you don’t want to be inked with a piece of scrap paper.

Step 2

Push the lever of the Kaleidacolor ink pad in so the ink pads slide together; roll the brayer over the pad to pick up the ink. Roll the brayer over the washi tape covered panel until you are satisfied with the saturation of the ink.

Step 3

Re-position the scrap paper over your inked section and apply New Sprout Memento Ink to the brayer and roll onto the bottom portion of the panel.

Step 4

Peel off the top three pieces of washi tape, leave the last piece of washi tape on the card for the next step.

Step 5

My Happy Birthday Stamp is a block of repeating sentiments. You could also use a single happy birthday style stamp and stamp it several times to get the same effect. Stamp the sentiment on the bottom portion of the card using Olive Grove Memento Ink. Now remove the last piece of washi tape from the panel.

Step 6

Trim and mat the panel onto a green card base. Embellish the card with a few dots of irRESISTible Pico Embellisher in Wedding Dress and Electric Green Neon.

Step 7

Stamp the mermaid image onto white cardstock using VersaFine Onyx Black. Create a color palette by scribbling desired colors of Memento Dual Tip Markers onto the craft mat; pick up the inks with a waterbrush and watercolor the image. Add dots of Wedding Dress irRESISTible Pico Embellisher to the mermaids necklace and bracelets to mimic pearls.

Step 8

Fussy cut the image and mount on the card. Wrap the base of the card with green twine.
