Home Again & Cold Enough For Ya?

by Roni Johnson

Two of Roni’s cards were published in the 2016 Winter issue of RubberStampMadness. We thought to share them and let her tell you a little more about them!

Handmade card featuring layered pieces featuring a gnome in an aspen grove with the sentiment "Cold Enough For Ya?" by Roni Johnson.

Winter is quickly approaching and this little fellow is just checkin’ in with you to see how you’re fairing with the cooler weather setting in. Layer multiple stamped images to add depth, dimension and a bit of fun.

Roni Stamped her tree image using VersaFine Onyx Black on two pieces of cardstock: one blue, one white. She cut around the frame of the blue, and fussy cut out each trunk of the white.

Then she used Memento Dual Tip Markers and Ink Potion No. 9 to watercolor in her gnome. She fussy cut him out and added some white highlights with a gel pen.

She adhered the gnome between the blue tree layer and the white trunks over. We love how she layered one side of his mustache over the tree and one under, really giving this piece some dimension! After trimming the “excess gnome” off, she adhered it to her prepared card base and used the perfect sentiment “Cold Enough For Ya?”. All her stamps were from clubscrap.com

Handmade card featuring a watercolored image of red boots on the stoop of a home decorated with holiday lights, snow all around and a sled left next to the door by Roni Johnson.

As a child I couldn’t wait for the first big snow. My brother and I would bundle up, climb the hill behind our house and sled for hours until we were exhausted. We’d trudge home, shed our gear and find a warm mug of hot chocolate in hopes of returning to the hill once we were warm. This card reminds me of those days… It was created by combining Memento Inks, Ink Potion No. 9 and a water brush.

To create the scene Roni combined two different stamps. For the main stamp she stamped it twice, using one for a mask as she added the tree to the left.

To color in most of the image she used Memento Dye Inks pounced on her Craft Mat and painted on with a water brush. To keep the ink wet she spritzed it down with some Ink Potion No. 9.

To really make the image pop she colored in some fine details directly with with Memento Dual Tip Markers. Both of the stamps were from Just For Fun Rubber Stamps.
