Neon Mixed Media Cards

With the mixed media trend in full swing, I set out to make a bright and happy card in a neon color scheme for a friend who needs cheering up. While I had everything out, I decided to make an entire set that she can either keep or give away. A variety of products in coordinating colors made this craft session a breeze!

Difficulty Level: Advanced
Time to Complete: 1 hour plus drying time

Directions:

Step 1 – Stamp a couple of large background images onto a piece of cardstock that will fit the front of a card, using one ink color at a time. It’s difficult to use the middle two colors of the Radiant Neon ink pad without a little of the adjacent colors contaminating, but I quite like the two-toned effect on the center cards.

Step 3 with StazOn ink

Step 2 – Stamp some script along the left-hand side of the background images overlapping slightly.

Step 3 – Stamp the Radiant Neon ink pad onto a craft sheet, then mixed the ink with a little gesso. Mixing the ink with gesso gives the same color as the ink, just several shades lighter. Apply the mixture to the center of the card through a stencil. Let this air dry if you have time, or dry it off with a heat gun in a well ventilated area.

Step 4 – Place a different stencil over the card, and spread a small dollop of Amplify! Apply heat to the Amplify! to create a wonderful foamy texture.

Step 5 – Spray Sheer Shimmer into its lid, and add a little black ink to color it. Using a paint brush, spatter droplets of the mixture over the card front. The Sheer Shimmer adds a delightful sparkle.

Step 6 – Create circles by wrapping twine around 3 fingers and tying in a knot, and attach to card fronts using a stapler. Stamp some sentiments onto scrap cardstock, trim and adhere to card fronts using foam mounting tape. Embellish with enamel dots, flair buttons, and adhesive diamantes. Adhere the card fronts to some folded cards and you’re done!
