I thought it would be fun to create a project my friends would like, so I chose to re-create Italian glass millefiori candleholder. This project uses my favorite product, StazOn Studio Glaze, along with small plastic cups, and flameless tea lights. This project is inexpensive, colorful and so easy to make that there is practically no way anyone can make a mistake.

Skill: Beginner
Time: 20 minutes + 24 hours drying time

Directions

Step 1

Choose 3 to 5 different StazOn Studio Glaze colors and a plastic cup. Be sure to include a metallic StazOn Glaze color.

Step 2

Turn the cup upside down. Placing the cup on deli paper or wax paper prevents waste since any excess glaze can drip onto the paper and be reused for another project later. It also makes clean up a lot easier. Starting with a metallic color, make a small line encircling the cup at the top of the upside down container.

Step 3

Choose another color for the next line. Each line should be a different contrasting color. The metallic color can be used every third or fourth line if desired. As soon as the desired amount of lines is achieved, lift the edges of the deli paper and drop it onto the work surface several times. This causes the glaze to start moving down the sides of the cup.

Step 4

When the glaze slides down to the bottom edge, use a DoodleStix to etch lines moving up and down the sides of the cup. Wipe off the DoodleStix often to keep the colors clear. Lift the edges of the paper again and drop the cup onto the work table in order to tap the color down the sides of the cup and into the drawn lines. If the lines don’t fill in completely that’s okay since the candlelight will glow through the clear plastic.

Step 5

Additional drops of color can be added at the top as dots and allowed to run down the sides of the cup. All the while the deli paper is picking up the excess glaze to be used for the base of Monoprint paper later.

Step 6

After adding a ring of Silver StazOn Studio Glaze, the votive holder is left to thoroughly dry up to 24 hours. The colors will continue to mingle and run together.

When the cup is completely dry, place a flameless battery operated tea light inside. Not only are the votive holders fun to make, but they can be used as a classy addition to that special dinner party or event. StazOn Studio Glaze offers a family of colors that will compliment a variety of party themes and color palettes.
