Learn How To Upcycle Old Computer Parts Into A Beautiful Collage

by Jowilna Nolte

Learn How To Upcycle Old Computer Parts Into A Beautiful Collage

StazOn ink has always been one of my favorite for mixed media projects, but the addition of StazOn Pigment has been a true game changer. I used the ink on several surfaces for this Teal and Magenta upcycled project, and I simply love the outcome of the StazOn Pigment ink on these surfaces.

Skill: Intermediate/Advanced
Time: 30 minutes

Directions

Step 1

Ink the resin wings using a sponge dauber with StazOn Pigment Peacock Feathers.

Step 2

Ink a metal disk by lightly tapping the ink pad onto the metal repeatedly. I did not cover the entire surface but left some open spaces.

Step 3

Once the ink on the disk is dry, stamp flower images onto the disk using Snowflake StazOn Pigment ink. Note: The ink pulled some of the pink ink off the metal leaving a silver flower impression which looked quite amazing.

Step 4

Die-cut white cardstock leaves and color them using your ink pads with the direct to paper method.

Step 5

Color flowers using All-Purpose inks on choice.

Step 6

Adhere the die-cut leaves, wings, and flowers to your metal disk using gel medium. Add thread, gold glitter, and other elements to finish off your project.

Video: How to Make a Magenta Monogram Shaker Keychain

by Jennifer Vanderbeek

magenta monogram key chain for new home owners

M is for Monogram! In today’s post, I am sharing how to make a Monogrammed Shaker Key Chain. In April, we celebrated our third year as homeowners—our housiversary if you will—and I have a few other friends dipping their toes (and bank accounts) into the real estate market right now. All of this had me thinking about the prime symbol of home ownership: the key. I had a lot of fun putting together this DIY crafting shaker element usually meant for handmade cards and turning it into a handmade keychain. It could a perfect housewarming gift for a new homeowner but could also be a fabulous luggage tag if traveling is more your style.

Color of the Month for May is…

magenta is may's inkpad color of the month

It is Monday! It is May and it’s time for May-genta! Every month we choose a color from our variety of ink lines to challenge our customer base and our artists. For the month of May, we choose this pure pink hue and felt that it was a great transition color from Spring to Summer. Magenta is also the M in the printing acronym CMYK – Cyan Magenta Yellow Black. So whether you like this color because it is pretty or because you are a nerd you can be satisfied either way! And this is exactly where we drew our inspiration.

In today’s post, we are featuring 3 crafting DIY projects. Magenta is a great color in fashion and Kyriako’s illustrates this perfectly in a dress sketch using Versacolor. Magenta can also be dramatic, and Roni does a perfect job of showing a scrapbook page that uses a dramatic layout. And Neva brings it back home with a handmade card that shows how well Magenta is used to direct the eye. See what these artists have to say about their projects…

dress colored with versacolor

Haute Couture with VersaColor by Kyriakos Pachadiroglou

Haute couture, daily fashion or coloring to design a stunning piece of cloth is fun way to get into this color Magenta! In the piece above I wanted to use blending techniques with VersaColor in a different way. These pigment inks are great for coloring in and blending because of the open dry time and how they do not readily soak into the paper especially heavy paper like I am using. Blending from red to purple in this dress shows how great these inks are and I was especially looking for a lush look for this dress figure. Using a Brushstix or sponge dauber will pick the ink off the stamp pad and is easy to use like a drawing tool.

I started with a true purple in VersaColor which is the Grape and blended with Peony, Camilla and Petal Pink (lightest) moving up. Using all the shades of ink was enjoyable and created great results on this project. From an easy idea like this one you can continue to draw more dresses, use other color combinations and add color on a young girl’s room.

Every Heart Needs Magenta by Roni Johnson

Magenta is my daughter-in-love’s favorite color and as it happens she had some lovely pink and white roses she carried for the wedding. I had a lovely photo with her holding them and by tweaking the color a bit I ended up with this amazing picture. I wanted a bold background to really make the colors in the picture pop so I started off with a layer of vibrant Lilac Posies Fireworks Spray. I love how the finished layout turned out…just as I envisioned it. You can see in the close up how the Creative Medium pulled some of the Fireworks Spray into the stenciled design as it dried making for an even bigger pop of color. The steel needle nose tip on the On Point Glue makes it easy to add just a drop of adhesive even for tiny embellishments like the sequins. It dries clear which is great for the clear iridescent sequins!

happy birthday card with dragonflies

Magenta Dragonflies Birthday Card by Neva Cole

When doing research for Imagines’ color of the month I discovered that the Dragonflies come in Magenta, who knew? This Magenta-bodied Dragonfly is created using multiple layers of ink and the assistance of a stamp positioner. The body is colored directly on the stamp with Memento Dual-Tip Markers in Love Letter (one layer) and Lilac Posies (two layers) and the eyes are in in Tuxedo Black. After cleaning the stamp, the entire dragonfly is then inked with VersaMark Dazzle Champagne and heat embossed with Embossing Powder in Iridescent. A spritz of Fireworks in New Sprout finishes the front panel. The die cut sentiment and backing layer are inked with Ink Blushers and Memento Luxe using the same formula of Love Letter and Lilac Posies. The wings didn’t stand out enough so a StazOn Blue Hawaii is dabbed on with a Bullet Tip Fantastix that was first moistened with StazOn All Purpose Stamp Cleaner. On Point Glue was perfect to add very small drops of glue to the sentiment to securing adhere it to the card front. Dragonflies are iridescent in real life and I believe I captured their essence with Imagine products quite nicely!
