Do you know someone with a birthday coming up? Are you loving what you are seeing in ink blending trends? Well, today’s blog post is just for you! Mischelle Smith uses Kaleidacolor and a brayer to blend dye inks on black and white decorative paper to create a beautiful birthday card. Neva Cole uses circle dies of different sizes and Memento inks to create an attractive floral-themed card.
Looking for the perfect way to show off the gorgeous palette of your Kaleidacolor inkpads? I was! So, I went directly to my black and white pattern papers. I used my brayer to add a portion of beautifully blended color to my black and white paper and the results were stunning. For an extra bit of visual interest, I also brayered some of my color onto white scraps of cardstock and then die cut. The contrast of black and white with beautiful bursts of Kaleidacolor makes a winning combination every time.
I did a couple easy techniques to create this card. The split from black and white to color is a simple masking technique. Mask the top section, ink up the brayer with Bouquet Kaleidacolor Pad and brayer the bottom portion of the pattern paper. Then, I repeated the brayer technique onto scraps of white cardstock and used a branch die cut to make the top layer pieces. I used a black shimmer trim to hide any masking marks and to add a nice contrast in the middle. Next, I created the Happy Birthday tag and prepared for the layering of all the elements. I layered one set of branches, the Happy Birthday sentiment, the silver thread and finished with another top layer of branch die cut. While this is a option, I can’t resist spritzing with several sprays of Frost Sheer Shimmer Spritz to add the finishing touch. I found this design to be so fun that I created a matching tag in the same style. So you can really expand these ideas as much as you like!
The challenge for the month was to incorporate ink blending into a project. I love how Memento Inks can be blended with water or Ink Potion No. 9. I also think it is really cool that the Fireworks Sprays are in the same colors, so it was quick and easy to put together this fun color coordinated card using Joy Clair stamps. Using a stamp positioner, I stamped the card front and two additional layers with StazOn Jet Black ink. The top two layers are die cut in circles. The top layer is water colored with a small paint brush and Memento in Danube Blue and Grape Jelly. The next layer is inked with an Ink Blusher and Grape Jelly. The bottom layer is splatted with the Fireworks in you guess it, Danube Blue and Grape Jelly. A little secret here, I accidently marked the top layer with a splotch of ink, but was able to cover the splotch with the strategically placed happy portion of the sentiment. Once dry, the card is assembled with dimensional foam adhesive and ready to be paired with a birthday present.
