See How to Make a Paper Rainbow Pinwheel Wreath with VersaMagic Ink.

It’s April! Can you believe it? I wanted to make something fun for summer to hang on our front door and I think this rainbow pinwheel wreath is just the ticket. It’s bright, cheerful and welcoming to all who grace our doorstep. I decided to use 21 different colors of VersaMagic ink to grace my rainbow but of course, any color theme would be perfect for this project. The complete color list can be found in the supply list below.

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 4 hours

Directions


Step 1

Cut eight 5-inch squares, seven 4-inch squares, and six 3-inch squares from white cardstock.


Step 2

Pencil in lines from corner to corner. Draw a 1-inch circle in the center of each square.


Step 3

Punch a hole in each triangle near the corner as shown.


Step 4

Sponge ink on the lined side of the cardstock. Only a portion of each triangle needs to be colored.


Step 5

Flip the square over and stamp the desired pattern on each of the triangles. Repeat steps 4 & 5 until all of the squares have been inked.


Step 6

Cut along the penciled lines from the tip to the edge of the circle. Fold each triangle over to the center, line up the holes and secure with a brad.


Step 7

Repeat steps 7 & 8 until all squares have been turned into a pinwheel.


Step 8

Cut out a wreath shape from chipboard.


Step 9

Hot glue largest pinwheels to the wreath first, fill in blank areas with the medium and small pinwheels. A stack of foam board was used to elevate the smaller pinwheels above the larger ones.

April Color of the Month is Mango!

Mango is April's Color of the Month 2018

Mango is not only a delicious fruit, it is also a beautiful color! Every month we challenge our Artists in Residence with a couple of different ideas or themes to push them to think outside the box, to try a technique they haven’t tried before and to give flow and continuity to the projects. This month our color is Mango which we consider a soft yellow-orange. We chose it to get us in the mood for summer! This color reminds us of fruit, flowers, the warming sun, and fun-in-the-sun activities. Another challenge we offered to our artists is to use VersaMagic ink. This chalk-like finish makes this ink a delight to work with on almost any crafting project.

Create an “Irish for a Day” Card for St Patrick’s Day

Create an "Irish for a Day" Card for St Patrick's Day using Tsukineko's VersaMagic and Brilliance DewDrops.

Are you feeling lucky? At least for a day you can be Irish and take your inspiration from the many shades of greens available in the Tsukineko and Imagine stable. Today’s card features some of my favorite greens for an interesting and less grass green version of this famous holiday. Take a look at how I created this fun effect.

Time: 1 hour

Directions


Step 1

On a large background stamp using VersaMagic in Aloe Vera, apply the ink in a tapping motion across certain sections over the stamp only.


Step 2

Add a second green ink over the remainder of the ink surface. I used Brilliance in Pearlescent Thyme to add some sparkle and shimmer.


Step 3

Carefully lay the cardstock piece onto the surface of the stamp and apply pressure by rubbing your palm over the surface. This is a lot easier to transfer the image onto the cardstock due to the nature of this stamp size and design. Remove to reveal the image.


Step 4

Use a small soft paint brush and All-Purpose Ink in Spring Green to add green paint splats. Add additional Walnut Ink splats onto the background as well.


Step 5

Cut out flowers and a cloverleaf from patterned paper and adhere to the stamped panel. Add a typed sentiment over the stem of the cloverleaf. Ad diamanté to finish off the card. Sew around the edges for texture and detail.

Create Lovely Wedding Gift Out of Polymer Clay Ultraviolet color

The weather is getting nicer and the wedding season will be upon us soon. Of course, weddings happen all year round, but June is a popular month. June wedding tradition goes back to Roman times when they celebrated the festival of the deity Juno and his wife Jupiter, who was the goddess of marriage and childbirth, on the first day of June. The Victorians celebrated June weddings because the flowers were in full bloom, which was used as wedding decor. Speaking of decor, I had the idea to celebrate weddings this season with a DIY ring bowl. It is easy to make and it’s not time-consuming. The results are beautiful and heartfelt. The ring dish can used during the ceremony to transport the ring down the aisle, and the newlyweds will always have a keepsake from the wedding.

Step 1

Condition the FIMO clay on the pasta machine or use a roller. If using the pasta machine roll a sheet of clay to the thickest setting (about 5 mm).


Step 2

Lay down the sheet of clay, place the bowl upside down on top of the sheet. Using the bowl as a guide, cut the clay from around the bowl with clay pick or precision knife. Smooth out the bowl’s rim by running your fingers along the surface and smoothing out bumps and jagged areas. (I used a cutting mat as the  Imagine Craft Mat as it is not a cutting mat.)


Step 3

Press stamps into clay to add texture or a sentiment.


Step 4

Place the clay in the bowl and bake together, according to the manufacturer’s instructions on the clay package. The clay will take on the shape of the bowl.


Step 5

Rub the Purple Hydrangea VersaMagic DewDrop ink on the bowl in random areas. Use the pointy end of ink pads to get into the crevices.


Step 6

Spray a little water on the ink—it will turn liquidy right away. Swish ink around the bowl, ensuring that it gets into the stamped areas.


Step 7

Dump out liquid ink and dry excess liquid in the bowl with a dry paper towel.


Step 8

Continue to color the bowl by rubbing more ink with your fingers or Sponge Dauber. Do not add more water. Leave areas uncolored, so that you can add another color. Heat Set. In the uncolored areas rub, with your fingers or a Sponge Dauber, Wedding Dress Memento Luxe. I did not blend the colors much, but you can. Slightly rub on Delicata White Shimmer all over the bowl, avoiding the crevices. It helps to bring everything together and gives a nice light shimmer.

 
Step 9

Add dimension with Grape Jelly and Lulu Lavender IrRESISTible. Using the fine-tipped applicator to fill in recessed areas. Here I have filled in the birds, birdcage, and text with the Grape Jelly color. Add Lulu Lavender in the rest of the recessed area to vary the colors. Allow everything to dry completely. Seal the clay with clay sealer or indoor polyurethane.
