Create a Coffee-Themed Father's Day Card

You are a Special Blend! This two-toned coffee theme card with its fun sentiment could make for a nice Father’s day card for the special dad that loves his coffee. I know in our house that sure is true. This card boasts shades of blue ocean with a hint of dramatic black all using one of my favorite inks—VersaFine Clair. Continue reading to see how I made this card!

Time: 1 hour

Directions

using your VersaMagic DewDrops. Start with your lightest color first moving to the darkest color
Step 1

Use the direct to the paper method to ink a piece of cardstock from top to bottom in sections using your VersaMagic DewDrops. Start with your lightest color first moving to the darkest color. And let dry completely.

Misti Stamping Tool and stamp the background image in Versamark ink and then sprinkle with clear embossing powder
Step 2

Position your stamp and cardstock piece in the MISTI Stamping Tool and stamp the background image in VersaMark ink and then sprinkle with clear embossing powder. Remove excess and heat set image.

Nocturne VersaFine Clair ink and ink over the entire embossed piece
Step 3

Use Nocturne VersaFine Clair ink to ink over a portion of entire embossed piece. Use a soft damp cloth to gently wipe the embossed areas clean from the black ink and reveal the colored image underneath. Ink the card only one-third of the way. I am using a band to mask the area area where it is ink over and where it is not. But you could mask off a line with washi tape if you wanted a strong edge.

Step 4

Trim a piece of specialty paper to 2 inches tall and 5 – 6 inches—long enough to wrap around your card. Stamp “You’re A Special Blend” sentiment from your Coffee Lovers set repeatedly in VersaFine Clair Warm Breeze across the paper band.

Step 5

Stamp the coffee cup twice in VersaFine Clair Fallen Leaves onto white cardstock. Then stamp the heart inside it using VersaFine Clair Warm Breeze.

Cut out the coffee cup and ink the edges using VersaMagic
Step 6

Cut out the coffee cup and ink the edges using VersaMagic. On your second cup, cut out a band and layer it on top of the colored cup using foam tape.


Step 7

Trim the embossed panel to fit onto a plain inked matt and add sewing detail. Adhere the panel to the front of a card using foam tape. Wrap the stamped band around the card and adhere the colored cup in place. Finish off the card with pearl and diamanté in the same shades as the inks used.

Add This Gnome Is Where The Heart Is to Your Art Journal

When I first saw the cute gnome stamp set by Joy Clair, I immediately knew what I wanted to create with it–a collage with bright colors! The ‘Gnome Is Where the Heart Is’ stamp set was just perfect to be used in my new Moleskine journal. 
The art journal spread was fun to make, and now I’m creating a set of gnome cards and ATC’s with a similar layout and look. I’m pretty sure they will turn out nicely, too! Enjoy!

Skill: Beginner/Intermediate
Time: 1.5 hours

Directions

Memento in Bamboo Leaves with an InkBlusher.
Step 1

Take a piece of green cardstock and apply Memento in Bamboo Leaves with an InkBlusher.


Step 2

Ink the top of the page background with Memento ink in Danube Blue. Whitewash gently with white acrylic paint. Let dry. 
Stamp the sentiment text on the upper left corner of the page with StazOn inks, they work well on acrylic paints. Create a background hill scenery from leftover cardstock pieces using both solid colors and patterned papers. Glue the free-cut paper slips on the page. 
Cut oval shaped trees from inked green cardstock. Ink edges, and glue on the page.


Step 3

Stamp images using Memento in Tuxedo Black and color with alcohol markers. Fuzzy cut, and glue on the page.


Step 4

Continue to add details as you see fit! Since this is your art journal and you make up the rules, then continue decorating as you desire.

Creating Beautiful Skies with VersaMagic Chalk Ink

In this cardmaking project, I use VersaMagic Chalk Ink and ink daubers to create a beautiful blended sky. This technique can be used for various background blending techniques as the VersaMagic Chalk Ink blends. The kitty cat images and “Thanks for being there!” sentiment is from the Best Buds stamp set from Joy Clair Stamps which as several additional cute animals such as bunnies and turtles.

See How to Make a Glass Pebble Votive with StazOn Studio Glaze

When I saw the Color of the Month for June was Seabreeze, my first thought was beach glass being tossed around deposited on land by the endless waves. Sadly I live in a landlocked state so I don’t have the opportunity to find or collect on the beach myself so I decided to improvise. Flattened glass marbles are easily found at many retailers so they were an easy choice to create this faux beach glass votive holder.

Skill: Beginner
Time: 45 minutes + dry time

Directions


Step 1

Gather about 50 or so flattened glass marbles, and StazOn Studio Glaze in Blue Hawaii and Emerald City.


Step 2

Dispense a dot of Studio Glaze onto one of the marbles and spread the medium over the top and sides of the marble with a paintbrush or your fingertip. Vary the application of the medium so there are areas with thinner and thicker coats which will produce a number of color variations.


Step 3

Repeat until you have roughly one-third of the marbles covered with Blue Hawaii. Let these marbles dry naturally.


Step 4

Apply Emerald City Studio Glaze to approximately one-third of the marbles as in steps 2 and 3. Leave the remaining third of the flattened marbles uncolored.


Step 5

While the flattened marbles are drying, cover a mason jar lid with Rinea Silver Starstruck foiled paper.


Step 6

Adhere a piece of cork to the bottom of the lid. This will become the base for the candle holder.


Step 7

Place a votive candle in the center of the lid base to use as a guide for placement of the flattened marbles.


Step 8

Use a hot glue gun to adhere the marbles to the base.


Step 9

Continue to build layers of flattened marbles until the walls reach their desired height. There are 6 layers of 8 marbles used in this example. Adhere decorative jute ribbon around the edge of the base of the votive holder. Enjoy!

Project Swap: Create a Hello Greeting Card from Book Pages

Welcome to another set for our Artist Project Swap with Iris and Jowilna. For the Month of May, we challenged our artists to exchange tutorials and create each other’s designs in order to see how each of our artists interprets style and choices. The receiving artist did not know who designed the project, nor did they receive any images! In today’s post, Iris gives the directions and recommended supplies list and Jowilna created the project.

Create a Hello Greeting Card from Book Pages by Jowilna Nolte

Being creative can literally happen anywhere and using whatever products you have, but under the pressure of a challenge the creativity can be ramped up a little. With my project swap challenge card, I did not have the same colors of VersaFine Clair inks Iris suggested and opted to use my Memento Luxe ink pads in similar shades. I love the chalky look the inks gave my card and the outcome is just as amazing. See how I made it!

Skill: Beginner
Time: 30 minutes + dry time

Directions


Step 1

Brush on watered down Gesso onto the book (printed text) paper, ensuring that the text is still visible. Dry paper.


Step 2

Stamp a flower with VersaFine Clair in Nocturne off center; about a third of the way from the left-hand side. Emboss the flower with black embossing powder and set with a heat tool.


Step 3

Cut two rectangle pieces of card stock paper; ensure that the length will cover the desired size the gesso book paper and a minimum of an inch in width. These pieces will be used to the block ink, so using scrap card stock paper is okay for this step.


Step 4

Tape down the corners of book paper with the masking tape. You will be inking part of the book paper. The rectangles cut in the step above will be used to block the ink. Select a rectangle area over the embossed flower to ink (leave unmasked). For added interest, do not ink the flower completely, make sure some of the flower images is masked to allow parts of the flower to go outside the inked area.


Step 5

Using the book paper that was cut in the step above as a guide, cut three rectangular pieces of white cardstock paper. Cut so that two of the three rectangles set side by side will create a mask below your book paper piece.


Step 6

Ink each matting cardstock piece with the same ink used in steps above. In essence, you are color coordinating with inked area of the book paper.


Step 7

Layer and adhere the inked cardstock pieces behind the book paper, overlap and vary their angles for added interest.


Step 8

Stamp a “hello” or “dropping you a note” sentiment onto card stock paper, fussy cut and adhere to the card front.
