Speckled Leaf Wreath Card

May Your Home…

by Neva Cole

Handmade Thanksgiving Card featuring mulitcolored and layered leaf wreath made with Fireworks!, Walnut Ink and Memento Dual TIp Markers by Neva Cole.

It is Thanksgiving time, a time to reflect on the blessings in our life and the sentiment expressed in this stamp is ideal for the perfect Thanksgiving card. I wanted the image to pop with different colors so I decided to use a quick technique with Memento Dual Tip Markers and color directly on the stamp. Adding a wreath of fall colored leaves adds to the festive autumn feel of the card.

Time: 1 hour

Step 1

Multicolored fall leaves are quick and fun to create with Fireworks! and Walnut Ink. One sheet of white cardstock is spritzed with Fireworks in Lady Bug, Tangelo, and Dandelion. Another sheet is spritzed has Walnut Ink in Walnut, Terra Cotta, and Eucalyptus over the top of Tangelo and Dandelion Fireworks. Set aside to dry thoroughly.

Step 2

Die cut circle from glossy cardstock. This technique gives great results with glossy cardstock. Place stamp on acrylic or other type of stamp alignment tool. Carefully color in sections of the rubber image with Memento Dual Tip Markers in desired colors. For this card I used Love Letter, Rich Cocoa, Potter’s Clay, Peanut Brittle, and Tangelo. The wheat image at the bottom of the stamp is NOT colored as I did not want to stamp this part of the image. To reactive the ink use the moisture of your breath by huffing on the surface of the stamp before stamping on the glossy cardstock.

Step 3

Color the Happy Thanksgiving sentiment (leaving the wheat section uncolored). Chose one of the colors used in the stamp above; I used Potter’s Clay. Huff and Stamp on glossy cardstock and die cut with Spellbinders ribbon banners and pressure emboss.

Step 4

Pressure emboss glossy cardstock with Cuttlebug Basket Weave. Run Memento Cantaloupe ink pad directly over the embossed surface to ink the raised portions. Ink edges with an InkBlusher.

Step 5

Use an InkBlusher to ink the surface of the die cuts to match the color scheme of the card.

Step 6

From your spritzed sheets, die cut multiple leaves with Quickutz Maple Leaf or a leaf punch.

Step 7

Adhere basket weave texture layer to the front of an A7 kraft cardstock base, and adhere the sentiment circle to that. Adhere leaves with glue dots in an inter-woven pattern alternating colors of leaves. By using small glue dots it is easy to place leaves around the circle and to lift edges where necessary. Tie coordinating ribbon into bow and adhere at the top of the leaf wreath. Adhere Happy Thanksgiving sentiment with dimensional foam adhesive.

Homemade Centerpieces for your Feast

Handmade is Bestmade

For this last day of our Table Decor Week posts, we have a couple of centerpiece or sideboard piece ideas that really speak to making the preparation part of the celebration. Both projects are perfect to put together with the kids. We’ll let Monica Edwards speak to this, as she does it so well!

Easy Gilded Table Decor

by Monica Edwards

Table centerpiece featuring the word "Home" and 4 votive candles, handmade by Monica Edwards

It’s that time of the year to reflect upon our lives and to give thanks. Instead of going out and spending a bunch of money on your home décor this year take a step back and make something. Sit down with the kids or your nieces and nephews and create something that will be a keepsake for life.

2016_nov_me_centerpeice_step1

I used an actual wall plaque to create a table centerpiece for Thanksgiving. Simply cover the base of the plaque with patterned paper. Once done I then used Stazon in Orange Zest, St. Valentines and VersaFine in Vintage Sepia to color the chipboard letters that spell Home.

2016_nov_me_centerpeice_step2

As you can see the richly colored pigments in the inks take well to chipboard. The StazOn inks soak deep into the chipboard as if it came colored the way it is. I then used some Tear It! Tape to make decorative strips with gilding flakes.

Lastly, instead of purchasing votive candle holders, I just covered the edge of the votive candles with patterned paper using more Tear It! Tape. I can’t wait to use it this Thanksgiving!

Neva Cole also has a great idea that would be perfect to put together with kids. It also uses flower dies for another purpose – you gotta love expanding the uses of your dies!

Tom Turkey

by Neva Cole

A handmade Thankgiving Turkey decor piece made with irRESISTible coated cardstock and a pinecone.

We have enjoyed raising a few turkeys on our mini-farm, and my favorites were the bronze-breasted turkeys. They had beautiful iridescent colored feathers, and the Tom turkey would strut around showing off his beautiful tail plumage. This was the inspiration for my version of a pine cone turkey to add to our table decorations. A little irRESISTibles Texture Spray, Kraft card stock, and almost any large flower die can be used to create a cute turkey.

2016_nov_nc_turkeypinecone_step1

Die cut two each of three different sizes or styles of flower die cut, and one oval from Kraft cardstock. Any large flower dies will work.

2016_nov_nc_turkeypinecone_step42016_nov_nc_turkeypinecone_step7

Place die cuts and pine cone on a plastic coated surface, I used the reverse side of freezer paper. Using Electric Yellow, Morocco and Copper irRESISTible Texture Sprays, do a combination of spraying directly on the pieces, and picking up the extra spray using tweezers to move around and pick it up. This method will create a mottled look.

2016_nov_nc_turkeypinecone_step5 2016_nov_nc_turkeypinecone_step6

Since I was modeling my tom off of the bronze-breasted turkeys, I covered my oval, which will become the front piece, exclusively in the copper spray. The juniper pine cones that I collected on a recent walk were a bit larger than what fit with the die cuts I had available. Using a pair of work gloves I held the prickly pine cone and trimmed it with a pair of garden snips. The color on the outside of scales is apparent in this photo. Save a scale to use as a beak later in the project.

2016_nov_nc_turkeypinecone_step10

I used a shaping tool to make my die cuts look a bit more feathery. I also shaped the oval, and cut off the sides of the oval into a body shape. I trimmed off the bottom edges of my larget die-cut for the right fit. I used those scraps to make a waddle!

2016_nov_nc_turkeypinecone_step13

After I adhered all my turkey pieces together, my last step was to take that scrap piece and color it red with a Lady Bug irRESISTible Pico Embellisher. Don’t forget to add the googly eyes!

We wish you well-decorated feasts this season!

Place Card & Silverware Holder All-in-one

Turkey Feathers!

by Roni Johnson

Handmade place card and silverware holder all-in-one perfect for a Thanksgiving meal by Roni Johnson.

It’s time to start thinking about your table setting for the holidays. Here is a rustic yet elegant idea that incorporates both kraft paper and metallics with a few monoprint feathers thrown in to wow your guests. Mini Gelli Arts monoprinting plates paired with Memento Luxe inks make monoprinting a breeze. The small compact size lends itself well to quick and easy printing for any occasions. All you need is a mini Gelli Arts plate, a selection of Memento Luxe Inks, a few stencils and some papers to print on and you’re set to go.

Directions

nov_2016_rj_placesetting_step1 nov_2016_rj_placesetting_step2

Step 1

Affix the Gelli Arts plate to an acrylic block; apply desired color of ink to the plate. Place stencil over the paper and stamp the gelli plate over the stencil. The ink will transfer through the stencil onto the paper. TIP: stamp off the design left on the gelli plate onto a second piece of paper for a reverse image to use in this or another project.

nov_2016_rj_placesetting_step3 nov_2016_rj_placesetting_step4

Step 2

Ink the gelli plate with a different color of ink and repeat stamping through a different stencil building layers of colors and designs as you go. Continue inking the plate and stamping through the stencils until you have enough monoprints to cut the desired number of feather die-cuts.

Step 3

Cut the monoprints with feather dies.

Step 7

nov_2016_rj_placesetting_step10

Step 8

Fold a simple pocket big enough to fit a set of silverware from plain kraft paper.

nov_2016_rj_placesetting_step11

Step 9

Spray with both Bronze and Gold irRESISTible Texture Spray and let dry.

nov_2016_rj_placesetting_step12

Step 10

Write out name for the place setting on kraft cardstock. Center and die-cut name card, and a larger die print paper. Ink the edges of both die-cuts using Delicata Dark Brown Shimmer ink.

nov_2016_rj_placesetting_step13

Step 11

Stamp fancy scrolls in each corner of the name tag using the same ink.

nov_2016_rj_placesetting_step14

Step 12

Assemble the layers of die-cuts and feathers finishing it off with a twine bow.

nov_2016_rj_placesetting_step15

Step 13

You may choose to affix the name card directly to the kraft pocket or first wrap a piece of vintage ephemera around the pocket such as this piece of vintage ledger paper as I did. Fold and insert linen or paper napkin and insert silverware.
