Learn How To Make 3 Matching Wedding Invitations

I wanted to share some easy to make wedding invitations using standard size cards in different designs. The designs are based on two techniques, one requiring a die cutting/embossing machine and one that does not, which makes it easier for everyone to make having basic supplies. The Delicata ink pads give shine and elegance to your wedding invitations. Another fun idea I include is how embossing powder can be used on darker papers to add beautiful contrast and pop to the front of a wedding invitation. Two of the designs form pockets. The text can be printed on a separate card and placed inside. You could also order pre-printed 5 x 7 inch cards, and not follow the pocket making instructions included in this tutorial.

Time: 5 minutes per invitation (depends on details)

Directions


Step 1

Use the embossing folders to emboss the fronts of the first two card designs. If you have an embossing folder that is for a full card background, you can place it over just a portion of the card front to get the 1/3 partial coverage.


Step 2

Add some color and shimmer to the embossed areas by lightly and smoothly pressing/rubbing the ink pad directly on the embossed surface. In the examples above, I used White Shimmer on the embossed lower 1/3 and Golden Glitz on the medallion shape. By going lightly you will only get ink on the raised portions which will highlight the embossing.


Step 3

For the large medallion embossed design, cut about 1 inch on the sides of it to fit the satin ribbon width.


Step 4

Pass the ribbon from the back side to front, add some Tear It Tape on the cutting, and fold the ribbon to set it to make a loop. Add a large rhinestone on the center of the medallion adhering it with the On Point Glue. This finishes the first card design.

Finishing the Second Embossed Design


Step 1

For the second invitation add printed ribbon using Tear It Tape just above the embossed area. Trim so it is flush with edges.


Step 2

To make a pocket card, cut about ⅜ x 5 inches strip of the front side of the card opposite to the embossed edge.


Step 3

Add Tear It Tape to the inside of the card along the bottom of the embossed area and the outside edge. Remove the backing and fold shut to make a pocket.


Step 4

Stamp with VersaFine Clair ink in Pinecone and the “And They Loved Happily Ever After” sentiment (or sentiment stamp of choice). Print or order cards with the text printed on a 4 ½ x 6 inch size card, punch a hole at the top of the insert card and add a matching ribbon. This ads a bit of extra elegance while confirming to the recipient they should pull out the insert card.

If you Do Not Have an Embossing Machine…


Step 1

Stamp a large flourish stamp with the VersaMark watermark ink on kraft paper, only covering 1/3 of the card front. Apply embossing powder over the stamped area, shake off excess and heat set with a heat tool.


Step 2

Add ribbon and further embellishments and follow the steps from second card design above.

I love to send cards to people, but adding in unexpected touches is one of my favorite things to do! Today’s card has one of those surprises – a completely clear front! Using the new StazOn Pigment ink and acetate, I was able to create my own patterned acetate using Waffle Flower stamps to make the front of the card really unique!

Learn How To Make A Hello Spring Card

Here in Finland, the winters are usually quite long, and when you now look out from the window you still see piles of snow even if it is already March! On a grey late winter day when spring and summer seem to be still quite far away, you can turn your mind already into spring mood: For that, you only need a few stamps, your favorite bright ink colors and some colorful pieces of scrap paper. When you spend a short moment stamping, cutting, and layering your colorful hand-made elements on a beautiful flower card I’m sure you will soon feel your mood rising. Happy and pleased with your creation you quickly feel that actually spring is just around the corner!

Time: 1.5 hours

Directions


Step 1

Mist a piece of watercolor paper with Fireworks Shimmery Craft Spray in Dandelion. Let dry. Place a stencil on the colored paper. Use VersaFine Clair in Summertime and a Sponge Dauber to stencil random patterns on the paper. Do not cover the entire area but leave areas unpatterned.


Step 2

Shape a chipboard grid by cutting out some parts with scissors. Color the plain chipboard with a Fabrico Pen in Real Black.


Step 3

Stamp patterns on the yellow stenciled paper, using the same orange ink. Glue the colored chipboard grid on the paper.


Step 4

Stamp flowers and leaves on pieces of colored cardstock. Stamp each flower twice; first on orange paper and then on yellow. Cut out. Layer each flower center on a base flower. Attach using 3-D foam stickers.


Step 5

Glue flowers and leaves on the card front. Write greeting word with foam letter stickers. Mat on dark brown cardstock and attach to card base.

The new StazOn Pigment ink is here!! Yay! I am so excited to share this wonderful new ink with you! I can hardly contain myself. I made a simple, springtime, gnome card to show you some of the versatility of this new ink. I stamped Peacock Feathers on kraft cardstock and Lemon Drop on a metal tag and both look great! This ink will work on porous and non-porous surfaces, dries quickly, and is OPAQUE, and sooo crisp! I really don’t know what else you need… Ok, I’m done gushing…for now. 🙂

Make a Peacock Feather Design with All-Purpose Inks

The month of March celebrates the beautiful color in Peacock Feathers and with so many ink choices in just the perfect colors, it was hard to choose what to create. But in the end, my love for watercolors and the stunning effects won and I created this art journal page using All-Purpose Inks.

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 30 minutes

Directions


Step 1

Color a sheet of watercolor paper. Paint a layer of water on top and then drop All-Purpose Ink onto the paper to let it mix and flow. Mist with more water to activate and promote flow. Leave to dry.


Step 2

Die-cut a peacock feather using a Silhouette machine. Paint with a layer of gesso and then add color using peacock color shades of All-Purpose Inks and a paint brush.


Step 3

Once the feather is dry, use On Point Glue to adhere the feather to the watercolor paper piece.


Step 4

To add shading and interest, add some grey and brown ink to your craft mat and mist with water, then paint in shadows. Use a graphite pencil for shading even more and adding details.


Step 5

Add some additional stamping and a quote as desired. Then adhere the page into your art journal or frame it as a home decor piece.

I have limited space for craft supplies and am always looking for ways to get multiple uses out of a single supply. One way to accomplish this, for example, is to keep a stash of white paper flowers in different sizes and color them to match your project.  This way, you don’t have to make room for multiple packages of pre-colored flowers. See how I create a Rose Gold Dragonfly theme gift tag using several of Imagine and Tsukineko inks.

Skill: Beginner
Time: 1 hour

Directions

 


Step 1

Apply Brilliance Ink to mat, add Shimmer Spray, use to color paper flower. Allow to dry.


Step 2

Repeat step one for multiple flowers.


Step 3

Add dots of clear IrRESISTible Pico Embellisher to flowers. Allow to dry.


Step 4

Apply Brilliance Ink in Pearlescent Coral to the mat, add Shimmer Spray and lay tag down into wet ink.  Allow to dry.


Step 5

Stamp diamond pattern, with Brilliance, to sections of tag.


Step 6

Stamp script onto tag with Delicata Golden Glitz.


Step 7

Edge tag with Brilliance.


Step 8

Stamp Dragonfly image and saying with VersaFine CLAIR in Nocturne.


Step 9

Embellish with dots of Tuxedo Black IrRESISTible Pico Embellisher.


Step 10

Apply Rose Gold Sheer Shimmer Stix to edge of flowers.


Step 11

Embellish tag with ribbon and flowers.
