Craft a Beautiful Ipad Holder from an Old Cutting Board

by Roni Johnson

DIY craft hack transform cutting board into an ipad holder

Technology has crept into most aspects of our lives and the kitchen is no exception. The internet is a wealth of information especially when it comes to recipes and cooking suggestions. It’s like having all of the cookbooks in the world at your fingertips. While technology grants us the ability to look up any recipe we could think of there is still one little tech problem in the kitchen. I need both hands free to cook and I also need to prop up my Ipad to read my recipes. So, I thought it would be fun to make an IPad “cookbook” Holder to solve this problem. After crafting the design, I simply set it up on my counter using the hinged prop on the back, and I was ready to go!

Skill: Beginner
Time: 1 hour + dry time

Directions

VersaMark
Step 1

Paint a wood cutting board with white acrylic paint. Position stencil over the cutting board and ink with VersaMark Ink over the entire board.

Step 2

Sprinkle Imagine’s Clear Embossing Powder over the ink. Shake off excess powder and return it to the jar for future use. Melt powder with a heat tool.

VersaMagic Dew Drops – Aspen Mist, Sea Breeze, Aegean Blue, Ocean Depth, Night Sky
Step 3

Ink with VersaMagic Dew Drop inks over the embossed design. VersaMagic is a chalk pigment which leaves a beautiful matte finish and has a little bit of a longer dry time to allow for blending. Use an InkBlusher to blend the inks together working from light to darker colors.

Step 4

Use a tissue or soft dry cloth to wipe excess ink from the embossed areas. The embossed design will really pop once the excess ink has been removed.

Step 5

Color a Scrabble Letter Rack (or a similar wood mount) using an InkBlusher sponge and desired color of VersaMagic. Glue inked holder to the front of the cutting board.

Step 6

Affix a prop to the back of the cutting board. You can create any support you feel will work for your cutting board. I simply glued chipboard (actually an old game board) to the wood holder to create a support, attached the ribbon (to keep the board from opening all the way and covered the board with matching ink.

Supplies

Imagine

  • Acrylic Paint – White (I used DecoArt)

Make Decor with a Fantastic Golden Touch

Perhaps Valentine’s Day also needs a touch of home decor to set the right mood for your loved one! Jessica Litman created this shimmery heart banner to add a little pizzazz to the room. We imagine this banner would look great in combination with flowers and a card. Kyriakos Pachadiroglou took a more earthy route and created a wood block piece that expresses sentiments associated with our Heart of Gold theme.

jessica litman creates this beautiful banner for Valentine's Day using Delicata White Shimmer and Imagine Embossing Clear.

With Valentine’s Day coming up, Jessica Litman felt that creating a banner to decorate would be the perfect fit for the holiday! This project allows a ton of flexibility because the banner can be as long or small as space allows! Jessica started by embossing heart stamps using Delicata White Shimmer and Clear Embossing Powder creating the background on black paper. Delicata is a metallic pigment ink and works great with embossing powders. She then cut the banner shapes and attached the gold heart to the center and finished the banner with a sewing machine. If you do not have a sewing machine then attaching a string to the back with adhesives should also work.

Supplies

  • Heat tool
  • Adhesive
  • Black cardstock 12 x 12”
  • Gold cardstock
  • Heart punch
  • Heart stamp
  • Sewing machine
  • Scissors
  • Paper cutter

Kyriakos Pachadiroglou uses Goosebumps and walnut ink on wood for this lovely piece of home decor.

Describe a person with a heart of gold and you will get words likes “believe”, “respect”, “patience”, “care”, “love” and much more. Kyriakos choose these words to convey a person with such qualities. He marked these sentiments on a slice of wood and enhanced it by a golden heart and embossing powder. Words are hand lettered with a paintbrush with the magic of GooseBumps and then covered with Walnut Ink to create a resist effect which almost looks hand carved.

  • Buddly Crafts – 40mm wooden heart
  • Gold metallic embellishments
