Project Swap: Glamorous Mixed Media Butterfly Card

Project Swap: Glamorous Mixed Media Butterfly Card

Welcome to the first set for our Artist Project Swap with Arjita and Elina. For the Month of May, we challenged our artists to exchange tutorials and create each other’s designs in order to see how each of our artists interprets style and choices. The receiving artist did not know who designed the project, nor did they receive any images! In today’s post, Elina Stromberg wrote the directions and recommended supplies list and Arjita created the project.

Glamorous Mixed Media Butterfly Card
by Arjita Sepaha Singh

For the month of May, Imagine challenged the Artists in Residence with a project swap. We were matched up with another team member and exchanged tutorials. I am working with Elina’s Stromberg’s instructions and product recommendations. I loved the swap and it was such a great way to try different creative styles. The original supplies list used VersaMark and Vintage Plum Embossing Powder. Since I did not have was the plum embossing powder, I used a plumy color of ink with clear powder.

See How to Create a Relaxing Sunset with VersaFine Clair

Do you know someone who is overdue for a vacation? Perhaps they are not sure whether they deserve a break? Today’s project is a perfect encouragement card for such a person. This card brings a desire for summer vacations and relaxation that makes you want to be inside the scene with the warm colors and the sense of calmness it gives. It allows you to dream of the place of a tropical island or somewhere in Africa. The deep colors of VersaFine Clair ink pads make them ideal for vibrant shades on paper and Imagine’s Sheet Metal pieces. See how I made this card.

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 1 hour

Directions

VersaFine Clair in Summertime. Sprinkle Imagine’s Embossing Powder in Clear
Step 1

Use a jumbo sponge dauber to color the Sheet metal circle with the VersaFine Clair in Summertime. Sprinkle Imagine’s Embossing Powder in Clear and heat set. Repeat the process a couple more times.

Cover a 4 x 6 cardstock by laying and blending VersaFine Clair in Summertime and Golden Meadow inks with a jumbo sponge dauber. Use the VersaFine Clair in Pinecone for the lower part of the card.

Emboss the cardstock with the branches embossing folders only at the bottom of it and enhance with more VersaFine Clair in Pinecone.

Step 4

Die cut the beach hut and color with the VersaFine Clair in Pinecone and Summertime.

Step 5

Use the rest of the die cut paper as a stencil and with the help of a sponge dauber make huts on the cardstock.

Step 6

Press the palm plywood shape on the VersaFine Clair Pinecone and use it to stamp on the cardstock.

Step 7

Color the plywood shapes and the Icelandic moss with the VersaFine Clair in Pinecone.

Step 8

Cut small pieces of the Tear It Tape and set the Sheet metal circle.

Step 9

Glue the plywood shapes with the On Point Glue and use foam tape to keep the beach hut raised from the background. Place the cardstock on the front of a 5 x 7 card.

Using VersaMagic On Vellum

Mother's Day Card by Nadine Carlier 2 ic

Did you know that VersaMagic works great on vellum? Many inks will smear even after they dry on vellum paper but not with VersaMagic. Because of its chalk-like finish, it is more opaque than other inks so you will always get nice bright colors on vellum.

Watch my video tutorial below to see how I created my Mother’s Day card using VersaMagic and vellum.
