Learn How To Make Elegant Flowers For A Spectacular Mother’s Day Card

In today’s crafting tutoring I will share how to make absolutely gorgeous flowers from foam paper and StazOn On Trend inks that hold their shape beautifully. Create a very special card to give to a Mother for Mother’s Day.

Time: 3 hours plus time to dry ink on foam paper

Step 1

Stamp Calla Lily image in StazOn Bordeaux.  Stamp Calla Lily Leaves image in StazOn Forest Green.  Set aside while working on the rest of the card.  The ink will take time to dry, otherwise it will smear or come off on your fingers.

Step 2

Trim a sheet of Strathmore Bristol Vellum Finish 100 lb paper to 7″ x 15″.  My pad comes in 14″ x 17″ so it will make two cards of this style from one sheet.  Score at 5″ from each end and accordion fold sheet using bone folder to crease folds.

Step 3

Place folded cardstock into Largest die from the Teardrop Lattice Gateway die by Heartfelt Creations.  Run through die cut machine.  Remove curved corners once they are cut, to allow all layers to cut through.

Step 4

Die cut decorative card front from white cardstock.  It is from the Heartfelt Creations Lattice Swirl Gateway die.  Die cut lower portion of Heartfelt Creations Lattice Flourish Gateway die (shown below).

Step 5

Use an ink blusher and Delicata Rose Gold to color die cuts.

Step 6

Use Versa Magic Aqua Splash Dew Drop to ink all outside edges of the tri-fold card.  Front is shown.

Using direct to paper method ink the front panel and back panel of the tri-fold card.  Shown is the back panel.

Step 8

Die cut scalloped edge die from the Heartfelt Creations Scalloped Flourish Gateway die.  Ink the edge with VersaMagic Perfect Plumeria.  Using direct to paper method ink the center of the panel.

Stamp the sentiment from Heartfelt Creations Fancy Special Day Stamp in StazOn Bordeaux at the top of the panel from step 8.

Center Lattice Flourish Gateway die below the sentiment and trim to fit.  Adhere with On Point glue.

Step 11

Die cut the third from the largest Heartfelt Creations Eyelet Frame Gateway from white cardstock.  Ink the edges and the center of the panel with VersaMagic Aqua Splash.  Die cut center panel form Heartfelt Creations Regal Lattice Gateway die from white cardstock.  Use an ink blusher to color the die cut.

Step 12

Die cut two smallest Eyelet Frame Gateway dies from white cardstock.  Ink smallest with Versa Magic Aqua Splash around the edges and lightly in the center.  Stamp with Inspire Me Sentiment Stamp in Caribbean Green StazOn ink.  Ink the larger die with Perfect Plumeria around the edges and lightly in the center.  Stamp “Happy Mother’s Day” from the Heartfelt Thank You Sentiments in StazOn Caribbean Green.

Step 13

Apply Tear It tape to the back of prepared panels from Steps 9, 10, and 11.  (Notice that I decided to change color used for the sentiments  for step 12 and simply used the opposite side of the die cut.)

Use and ink dauber to color the leaves and Calla Lily images with StazOn ink in Caribbean Green and Bordeaux.  Set aside for the ink to dry, I let mine dry over-night to keep from staining my fingers in the next step and smudging the ink.

Step 15

Die cut the Calla Lily and leaves.  Prep space to create flowers.  Heat glue, glue gun, die cuts and Heartfelt Creations Pastel Pollen Stamens.  (Note I colored the back of the die cuts as well, but turns out it is not necessary because the back of the images do not show on the finished card.)

Step 16

Holding the Cally Lily die cut with a pair of tweezers and heat the back of foam paper until it just begins to curl.  The foam paper will curve towards the heat.  While the foam paper is still warm gently add a small dab of hot glue at the very base of the Cally Lily.  Place stamen and pinch closed, hold for a moment until hot glue cools and flower will hold it’s shape.  Repeat with remaining five flowers.

Step 17

Heat the back of the leaf image until it curls.  While it is still warm pinch into shape until the foam paper has cooled and it will hold its shape.

Step 18

Using small dots of On Point glue adhere the Lattice Swirl Gateway die cut from Steps 4 and 5 to the front panel of the card.

Apply Scalloped panel to middle of section of the tri-fold card.

Use hot glue to adhere foam flowers to the front of the card as shown above.

Continue to adhere flowers and leaves to the card front as shown.  Adhere the sentiment over the trimmed wires from the stamens.

Adhere die cuts from Step 11 to the back panel of the card.  Adhere flower and leaf and the sentiment panel in place as shown.

How to Make a Mother’s Day Card

I am not one for a traditional Mother’s Day Card – although the message inside may be one of gratitude, on the outside it can reflect something personal as well.

Instead of doing the usual thing I combined some fun stamping and inking with a vinyl heart and a little stamped sentiment that will mean the world to my mom.

“FRESH START” is my prayer for her this Mother’s Day – the beginning of so much more than just being a mother.

Step 1
Combine VersaMagic Mango Madness with  Delicata Champagne to ink some chipboard hearts.

Step 2
On a white smooth cardstock background, use the VersaMagic and ink the background. Combine the “direct to paper” method carefully blending the ink and then use a sponge dauber for achieve an ombre effect towards the top.

Step 3

Stamp onto the background several times overlapping different stamp designs and VersaMagic ink. Then finishing off the top layer using Delicate White Shimmer to stamp the last layer. Look at that gorgeous shimmer.

Step 4

Apply a layered vinyl heart, stamped sentiment and chipboard heart, as well as some embellishments.
Matt onto white cardstock layer and then onto a kraft card.

And just like that I created a heartfelt and meaningful Mother’s Day Card with lots of sparkle and shimmer – wishing my mom a bright future ahead.

Learn How to Make a Kaleidacolor Mother’s Day Card

Hello! I don’t know about your mom, but my mom is not really into your typical Mother’s Day card. She’s not really into super flowery, extra sentimental cards. She prefers bolder, more graphic things. So I decided to think “outside of the box” and use triangles! This is a fun and simple way to get a unique looking card with dye based inks from Imagine.

Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Time: Approx. 20 minutes.

Step 1

Let’s gather our supplies! Grab a Gel Press Petite (I went with a triangle so that I could rotate them 180 degrees each time to get a cool pattern), your favorite Kaleidacolor inkpad, an additional Memento ink pad, and a stencil. For tools, you’ll want an acrylic block or handle, plus a brayer.

Step 2

Apply the Gel Press Petite to your block. Click together the Kaleidacolor inkpad. Roll the color on to your brayer. It will not look like there is much color on the surface of the Gel Plate, but don’t worry, it’s there.

Pick up the inked Petite (while it’s on the block) and apply it facedown to your cardstock. I left a 1/4″ border below the triangle. Press the triangle into your paper as you would a clear stamp, then peel it away from the cardstock.

Step 4

Apply Teal Zeal to the Triangle Gel Press and roll the color out with your brayer.

Step 5

Place a stencil on top of the inked triangle and gently press it into the Plate. The Plate will hold the stencil in place.

Flip the Plate (with the stencil still attached) on to a piece of scrap paper. I use copy paper. Press into the scrap to remove the ink from the negative areas. You can see in my photo above how it will look.

Step 7

Peel the paper away from the Plate, then remove the Stencil.

Step 8

Place the Plate directly on top of the first Kaleidacolor inked triangle you created. The left over Teal Zeal ink on the Plate that was trapped under the stencil will transfer to the paper.

Repeat applying the Kalediacolor Ink to the Triangle, flip it around and place onto your cardstock, making sure it’s going in the opposite direction of your first triangle.

To make things go faster, I opted to ink and stamp all of my Kaleidacolor triangles before I finished my stenciled layers. I worked my way across the entire piece of cardstock, from end to end.

Step 11

Repeat the process of applying the Teal Zeal to the triangle, applying the stencil, taking off the excess ink, and then applying to the Kaleidacolor layers. Do this until all of the triangles have a stenciled image on them. Then trim the piece, leaving a 1/4″ at the top.

For my “mom” sentiment, I applied more Teal Zeal to my triangle (you can use any Gel Press Plate for this, but since the triangle was already out, I just used that). I placed a strip of paper on it to pull the color off. I repeated this step until I had enough of the strip covered for my dies to fit the “mom.” I could have just inked the paper. But I wanted the paper to have the same look as the rest of the card. Gel Press printing looks very different than applying ink directly to paper, or using some sort of applicator. This kept everything cohesive.

Step 13

I wanted a shadow layer to my “mom” so I repeated the last step, but I reapplied ink to my strip 3 times to get a darker tone. It’s still Teal Zeal, but at a richer strength because I layered the color several times. I adhered these layers together with On Point Glue.

I created my card base from white cardstock, cut to 8 1/2″ x 7.” I applied my Kaleidacolor ink directly to my brayer, sprayed it with Ink Potion No. 9 to help it flow, and rolled it on to the top and bottom of my card base.

Step 15

Adhere the mono-printed layer and the sentiment to the card.

This was a really fun card to make, and since you can get a huge range of Kaleidacolor inkpads (including a dry one so that you can create your own combination!), you can change up the look of this card easily. Thanks so much for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!

Create a Mum Flower Home Decor Piece with Vertigo and StazOn Pigment

There is nothing better than using your crafting skills to create a gift for someone. That is what I did for this mum, or chrysanthemum, flower project—a gift for my mom. (Get it – a mum for mom?!) Crucial to achieving this fun look, I used Vertigo in Prism and Mboss Embossing Powder in Hologram. I created a 5”x 5” framed Mixed Media piece full of color and texture. See the video slideshow or my instructions below to see how I get some extra dimension with the Vertigo sheet!

Directions


Step 1

Cut Vertigo into 5” x 5” panel.


Step 2

Stamp the Mum flower onto the center of Vertigo panel with StazOn Pigment Piano Black.


Step 3

On the opposite side of the stamped image, color the mum with VersaMagic ink and Fantastix applicators. Simply touch the tips of the Fantastix to the inkpad to pick up the color and use like a marker.


Step 4

Die-cut the mum with coordinating die.


Step 5

On white cardstock, sponge VersaMagic ink to add color.


Step 6

Stamp script stamp with StazOn Pigment.


Step 7

Add texture to Vertigo panel with Hologram Mboss Embossing Powder. To do this, swipe the front of your Vertigo Panel with VersaMark inkpad. Apply powder sparingly and shake off excess. If you want a more sparse texture, you can always use a dry brush to knock off more before heat setting.


Step 8

Add black paint splatters.


Step 9

Add Tear It Tape to the back side of the Vertigo panel.


Step 10

Adhere tulle between the cardstock and Vertigo panels, then adhere to piece of prepared cardstock.


Step 11

Embellish with sequins.


Step 12

Tie a white string around the panel.


Step 13

Add double sided dimensional tape to the tulle.


Step 14

Spray the Mum Die cut element with GooseBumps for extra shine.


Step 15

Once dry, adhere the mum to the panel.


Step 16

Adhere sticker saying “let life surprise you” sentiment. Add any additional finishing touches and insert into the picture frame.

Make a Quick and Easy Mother’s Day Card

Hi there! Just popping’ in to share this quick and easy Mother’s Day project. I had fun playing with the different inks and created this colorful card using the Walnut Ink Spray, StazOn Pigment in White and Memento markers. With a couple of simple diecuts you can create this dynamic card in no time.

Directions


Step 1

I sprayed a whisper white piece of card stock with two colors of Walnut Ink in Cherry Blossom and Lilac and let the paper dry naturally for a few minutes. The walnut ink is a beautiful deep natural color.


Step 2

I diecut the inked paper with a “bed of roses die” from Essentials by Ellen and pasted it directly over a whisper white card base. Then, I stamped the sentiment “I want to be you when I grow up” over basic black card stock with Snowflake StazOn Pigment Ink.


Step 3

For the embellishments, I colored two leaves from the set Tropical Foliage of Hello Bluebird with Memento Markers.


Step 4

Finally, I arranged all the pieces over the card and pasting a rectangle frame on the center of the card.

Using VersaMagic On Vellum

Did you know that VersaMagic works great on vellum? Many inks will smear even after they dry on vellum paper but not with VersaMagic. Because of its chalk-like finish, it is more opaque than other inks so you will always get nice bright colors on vellum.
