Watercolored Lunar New Year’s Card

Hello crafty friends… Helen is here today. Today, I would like to share an idea to make a Lunar New Year card. Lunar New Year marks the new month for the new year in oriental calendar and it is also the beginning of Spring. Today we are going to do some watercoloring with Fireworks! Shimmery Craft Sprays and layer stamping technique.

Skill: Beginner
Time: 15 minutes

Direction:

Step 1

First, cut out a piece of watercolor paper (I used 140 lb watercolor paper) into 4.25 inch x 5.5 inch.

Spray the Fireworks! Summer Sky and Bahama Blue on the craft mat, and lightly spray with water to create the watercolor ink blends on the craft mat.

Smoosh the watercolor paper to the ink and repeat it until the watercolor inks cover the paper. You can dry the ink in between smooshing for extra texture and more layers of colors. Dry the whole panel with a craft heat gun.

Step 2

Put the watercolored background panel on the stamping tool.

Stamp the fish images on it with the VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink pad. Repeat it if needed.

Dry the stamped images well with a craft heat gun and put it back on the stamping tool.

Step 3

Stamp the bottom layer of the lily pad leaf with the VersaFine Clair Grass Green ink pad.

Move the position of the stamp to a different spot and stamp again.

Repeat it until you like the pond scene on the card.

Dry the stamped images well with a craft heat gun and put it back on the stamping tool.

Step 4

Next is to stamp the second layer of the lily pad leaf. Position the stamp on top of the first stamped image and then stamp it with the VersaFine Clair Green Oasis ink pad.

Repeat it until you stamp on all the first layer stamped images.

Dry the stamped images well with a craft heat gun and put it back on the stamping tool.

Step 5

Next is to stamp the third layer of the lily pad leaf which means it is the top layer of the layer stamps. Usually it would be the darkest color of the color combo.

Position the stamp on top of the previous stamped image and then stamp it with the VersaFine Clair Rain Forest ink pad.

Repeat it until you stamp on all the stamped images.

Dry the stamped images well with a craft heat gun.

Step 6

This is the fun part: watercoloring with the Fireworks! Shimmer Craft Spray.

Spray a little bit of each color of the Lady Bug, Dandelion, and Tangelo directly on the craft mat. I only sprayed it once and no water was added.

Pick up the ink color and start watercoloring the koi fishes. Each color will blend well.

For a lighter pigment color, you spray a little bit of water and mix it together.

Step 7

DO NOT WIPE OFF the left over of the Fireworks! Shimmer Craft Sprays on the mat.

Spray more water on it and smoosh a piece of watercolor paper on it to get another watercolored background panel.

Dry it well with a craft heat gun and set side so you can use for your next project.

Step 8

Stamp the water ripple stamps all over the panel with a stamping block using the VersaMagic Cloud White Dew Drop ink.

This will give the water ripple effect that those koi fishes swimming under the water.

One more time dry the whole panel with a craft heat gun to make sure all the inks are set well on the watercolor paper.

Step 9

Cut a piece of heavyweight heat-resistant vellum paper into 1 inch x 4.75 inch.

Put it on the stamping tool and secure it with the magnets.

Stamp the sentiment in the middle of the vellum paper with Brilliance Galaxy Gold Dew Drop ink.

Carefully remove it from the stamping tool and dry the ink with a craft heat gun.

Step 10

Add the sentiment vellum strip on the background panel and fold the extra flap to the behind of the panel and secure it with some of the On Point Glue.

Add the whole finished panel to the card base with On Point Glue. Hold it down for a couple minutes until the glue dries well.

The card is done.

This watercolored Lunar New Year card is flat enough to send it in regular mail for sure. I hope you will give this tutorial a try to create your own flat card yet has some layers effect on it.

Make a Lavender Birthday Card

Hi everyone! It’s Jessica here. Today I have a beginner friendly birthday card to share with you. Most of my creations involve die cutting or dry embossing using a die cutting machine. So today, I decided to go back to the basics and create a card that focuses on stamping.

Step 1:
I will be using VersaFine Clair ink pads to stamp all of the images today. For the outline, I used Nocturne. This is my favorite black ink pad because the stamped images are always crisp and dark.

Step 2:
Then I stamped the lavender overlay image with VersaFine Clair Lilac Bloom. The stamp set I am using today is called Lots of Lavender from Stampin’ Up. It’s a simple layering stamp set that is very forgiving for beginners; the overlay stamps have loose, watercolor-like shapes so you don’t have to line up to the outline image exactly.

Step 3:
I decided to add a different purple tone to the lavender layer. I inked up the same stamp using VersaFine Clair Very Peri, only this time, I inked up only the edges of the stamp. This way, you can create an image that has duo-tone effects. I think these two purple shades complement each other so perfectly.

Step 4:
I used the same duo-tone technique and stamped the leaves and stems with VersaFine Clair Verdant first, then with VersaFine Clair Avocado. For the bow, I stamped with VersaFine Clair Sand Dune.

Step 5:
Finally, I stamped the “happy birthday” sentiment with VersaFine Clair Nocturne, added a few enamel dots, and the card is complete!

A Winter Birthday Card with Soft Layers and Snowy Texture

Hello crafty friends… If you are like me, I always need birthday cards at any season. Since it is Winter now, today we are going to make a Winter themed birthday card. Let’s gather your supplies and make it together.

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 15-20 minutes

Directions:

Step 1

First, cut out a piece of vellum paper into 4.25 inch x 5.5 inch (or any size that will fit inside your embossing folder).

Add some of the Brilliance Moonlight ink to the embossing folder on the raised side, carefully add the vellum paper to the embossing folder, and then run it through the die cutting machine (make sure to follow your die machine sandwich instructions for embossing folder).

It’s optional, you add more of the white ink to the embossed vellum if you want to.

Use a craft heat gun to dry the ink on the embossed vellum.

Step 2

To add more shine and sparkle to the white snowflake embossed vellum, gently rub some of the VersaMark Dazzle Frost ink pad on the embossed side (raised image).

Dry the ink on the embossed vellum with a craft heat gun.

Trim it into 4 inch x 5.5 inch. I suggest using scissors instead of papertrimmer.

Step 3

Add the 3 cake image stamps on the stamping tool, and then add the Brilliance inks (Pearlescent Purple, Pearlescent Lavender, and Pearlescent Sky Blue) to each cake stamp. Stamp them on a piece of white cardstock.

Repeat this step if needed to get good solid stamped images.

Dry the ink well with a craft heat gun and set it aside.

Step 4

Add the icing image stamps on the stamping tool, and then add the Brilliance Pearlescent Orchid to each cake stamp. Stamp them on a piece of white cardstock.

Repeat this step if needed to get good solid stamped images.

Dry the ink well with a craft heat gun and set it aside.

Step 5

Next, stamp the cherry and sentiment using the stamping tool with Delicata Ruby Red ink on a piece of white cardstock.

Repeat this step if needed to get a good solid stamped image.

Dry the ink well with a craft heat gun and set it aside.

Step 6

Cut each image with the matching die using a die cutting machine.

If you do not have the matching die set for your stamp set, you can fussy the stamped images with micro-tip scissors.

Step 7

Add the embossed vellum paper to the card using On Point Glue, press gently to make sure the vellum adhered well to the card background.

Add the birthday cake pieces to the card using On Point Glue, press gently to make sure they adhered well to the vellum background.

Step 8

Fussy cut the sentiment using the micro-tip scissors.

Add some of the white fun foam to the back of the sentiment using some of the Tear It! Tape, then add the sentiment to the card.

This card is easy and fun to make, especially the Brilliance Pearlescent inks give extra sparkle to the cake!

 Create an Easy Candy Treat Box

Hi everyone! It’s Jessica here. Today I am sharing a candy box idea that is fitting for all occasions. However, the candy box die I am using today is versatile and you could dress up the box for Halloween treats, too!

Directions:

Step 1:
Stamp the small butterfly base image from Stampin’ Up’s Watercolor Wings set with VersaMagic Red Magic ink pad.

Step 2:
For the second layer of the butterfly stamp, I used VersaFine Clair Glamorous ink pad. I think these two shades of red complement each other very well.

Step 3:
Die cut the butterfly with the coordinating Butterflies Thinlits dies.

Step 4:
Stamp the third layer with VersaMark ink pad and heat emboss with gold embossing powder.

Step 5:
Die cut two pieces of patterned paper using Lawn Fawn’s Candy Box die. Then adhere the sides of the boxes together with Tear-It Tape, while leaving the ends open. After filling the box with treats (chocolates like Ferrero Rocher and Lindt are perfect!), tie the ends of the candy box with pieces of twine.

Step 6:
Stamp a sentiment with VersaMagic Red Magic ink and this simple treat box is complete! Imagine

Make a Postal Style Birthday Card

It’s Ceal, back to share with you. Today I am sharing a birthday card using some postage stencils which are all the rage lately.

Skill: Beginner
Time: 30 minutes

Directions:

Gather your supplies. For this project you will need several colors of inks, postage stencils and a postage die.

Step 1:
Using VersaFine Clair Charming Pink, ink the first layering stencil.

Step 2:
Using VersaFine Clair Warm Breeze, ink up the second layering stencil.

Step 3:
Using VersaFine Clair Verdant, ink the strawberry, the candles and the streamers.

Step 4:
Using VersaFine Clair Lilac, ink the candle and over the present.

Step 5:
Using VersaFine Clair Sand Dune, ink the cake portion.

Step 6:
Using VersaFine Clair Charming Pink, ink over the cake frosting again with a heavy hand, the cupcake up top I inked with what ink was left on the brush.

Step 7:
Using VersaFine Clair Cheerful, ink over the candle flames and streamers.

Step 8:
Stamp sentiment and postage with VersaFine Clair Nocturne.

Let’s Make a Nature-Inspired Birthday Card

I wanted to use my husband’s birthday to make him a personalized birthday card. He loves to be in nature and loves it when I use recycled materials (mostly because then we don’t have to buy new things). I also added a background that expresses how I feel about him.

Skill Level: Intermediate
Time: 2 hours

Directions:

Step 1:
Stamp a piece of kraft cardstock with a text-based background stamp with Jumbo Java VersaMagic Chalk Ink. Heat emboss with clear embossing powder. Die cut the panel with the second-largest die from a nested A2-sized nested die set.

Step 2:
Stamp a large tree stamp set on a piece of watercolor paper with Nocturne VersaFine Clair ink. Heat emboss with clear embossing powder. Die cut with a mid-sized star die from a nested star die set.

Step 3:
Lightly spray Rich Cocoa Fireworks! Craft Spray and Gold Sheer Shimmer Craft Spray onto the watercolor stamped star. Blot a little of the spray off with a paper towel and allow to dry. Then Then press Celestial Copper Delicata ink onto a piece of acetate packaging and spray with water. Watercolor smoosh the star by pressing the liquid copper onto the panel. Then repeat the watercolor smooshing with Jumbo Java VersaMagic Chalk Ink mixed with water on the acetate. Let the panel dry again.

Step 4:
Mix some of the remaining Jumbo Java VersaMagic Chalk Ink and water with more of the Rich Cocoa Fireworks! Craft Spray to make a darker brown watercolor. Paint the trees with the watercolor. Allow to dry. Apply a second coat of watercolor to a few trees to add interest and darker trees. Allow to dry a second time.

Step 5:
Stamp a sentiment on kraft cardstock with Nocturne VersaFine Clair ink. Then heat emboss with more clear embossing powder. Then die cut with the corresponding dies.

Optional: Die cut 2 more die cut layers for each of the sentiment (3 layers total for each of the dies–1 that is the stamped kraft layer, and two scrap layers). Glue the layers together and set aside to dry.

Step 6:
Die cut a piece of corrugated cardboard with the largest die from an A2-sized nesting panel die set. Then brush the edges of the panel with Jumbo Java VersaMagic Chalk Ink.

Step 7:
Use a sponge dauber to ink blend the edges of the star with Celestial Copper Delicata ink. Glue the die cut star onto the smaller, stamped panel. Trim the overhanging left part of the star. Then press Tea Leaves VersaMagic Chalk Ink onto acetate packaging and spray with water.

Splatter the Tea Leaves-colored watercolor onto the panel. Add a couple of watercolor smooshed areas to add interest (or to cover areas where you want splatters but the splatters are not doing what you want). Allow to dry.

Step 8:
Brush the edges of the smaller, stamped panel with the Celestial Copper Delicata ink pad.

Step 9:
Assemble the card. Glue the two panels together. Glue the sentiment strips onto the panel. Then add sequins on the lower left and upper right parts of the card. Then glue the whole thing onto an A2-sized kraft card base.
