Did You Miss The Date? Make a Belated Birthday Card

Have you ever missed someone’s birthday by mistake? Today’s project has a theme that will help with this little problem just in case you get in a jam with a missed date. This project also uses fun techniques with a button quilted looking background on kraft cardstock. Take a look to see how to made this card!

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 1 hour

Directions

Step 1

Cut a piece of crumb cake (kraft) cardstock of 4.25″ x 5.5″. Take the large “Tufted Button” background stamp from Joy Clair and stamp it using VersaMagic in Cloud White. If you do not have this stamp then select one with a lot of free space inside or any good image for coloring and cover the stamped image with white embossing powder. Melt the powder with the heat tool.

Step 2

Dab VersaMagic Cloud White Ink on your craft mat and spray it with water. “Paint” your stamped image with the mix created using a paintbrush or aqua painter. Let the paper dry well.

Step 3

Dab VersaFine Ink Clair in Warm Breeze on the mat and paint one side of the borders of the stamped background following the pattern. This will create a shadow effect on the background.

Step 4

Dab Memento Ink in Tangelo on the mat. Repeat the painting process with Tangelo over the whole background using an aqua painter or paint brush. Let the paper dry. Layering the different colors is a beautiful effect on this kraft cardstock. Resize the stamped layer and paste it over a white card base using double sided foam tape or dimensionals.

Step 5

Die cut a leaf or floral element and heat emboss with Sparkle Embossing Powder. Add the “belated birthday wishes” sentiment stamped with VersaFine Clair in Warm Breeze over a piece of white cardstock. Paste the stamped image with a mat created with vellum with the die cut fitting in between.

This design is super fun to make and can be reworked or imagined with any number of themes, background stamps or sentiments. Enjoy and have a nice day!

Project Swap: Inspire with Herringbone Art

Project Swap: Inspire with Herringbone Art

Welcome to another set for our Artist Project Swap with Nadine and Roni. For the Month of May, we challenged our artists to exchange tutorials and create each other’s designs in order to see how each of our artists interprets style and choices. The receiving artist did not know who designed the project, nor did they receive any images! In today’s post, Roni gives the directions and recommended supplies list and Nadine created the project.

I absolutely loved swapping projects with Roni Johnson! This project was not something I would have ever thought of making on my own but I really enjoyed making it. I didn’t have all the exact same products that she used but was able to improvise with no problem. Besides, I prefer not to copy something exactly and put my own twist on it.

I made a video showing how I created my project. Watch it below!

Project Swap: Lime Color Happy Birthday Card

Swap Project: Floral and Lime theme Happy Birthday Card

Welcome to the first set for our Artist Project Swap with Arjita and Elina. For the Month of May, we challenged our artists to exchange tutorials and create each other’s designs in order to see how each of our artists interprets style and choices. The receiving artist did not know who designed the project, nor did they receive any images! In today’s post, Arjita’s turn to give the directions and recommended supplies list and Elina created the project.

Lime Color Theme Happy Birthday Card by Elina Stromberg

I have to admit that I’m bit rebellious when it comes to detailed project instructions. Reading tutorials and watching instruction videos is always very inspirational, but the projects I make are very seldom precise replicates of the original projects. In case of Arjita’s tutorial, it includes techniques that I’m not familiar with, so I followed the instructions more carefully in order to learn. But once I think I’m mastering the key points, I tend to go my own way, using my own colors, patterns, and supplies.

On this project, I used two green Memento colors for the background in Bamboo Leaves and Pear Tart. For applying the inks on the background, I used a brayer and decorated the inked background with Shimmer Creative Medium. The stencil I used was not the same as on the original project; I used ‘Corncob Etching’ from TCW.

My card is not as monochromatic as the original project; for coloring the stamped flowers I did not use the background color, but yellow Memento in Cantaloupe and Dandelion. The result looks different, but I’m quite happy with the outcome! I did not want to use too much black on my card, so the die-cut circle background is not black but dark green. My nesting Sizzix dies cut quite a wide border, so I narrowed it to half with my scissors.

For the month of May, Imagine challenged the Artists in Residence with a project swap. We were matched up with another team member and exchanged tutorials. I am working with Elina’s Stromberg’s instructions and product recommendations. I loved the swap and it was such a great way to try different creative styles. The original supplies list used VersaMark and Vintage Plum Embossing Powder. Since I did not have was the plum embossing powder, I used a plumy color of ink with clear powder.

See How to Make a “Thinking of You” Fairy Card

by Steph Ackerman

Fairies are sweet little mythical creatures from stories we read as a child and they are the inspiration for today’s cardmaking tutorial. They were always colorful, happy and enjoying life and make the perfect subject for a greeting card that reads “Hello” or “Thinking of You!” I recently got these stamps and dies from Heartfelt Creations and just had to use them. I knew that Fireworks Shimmery Craft Sprays would be perfect for creating magical color backgrounds. I absolutely loved creating these cards!

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 1 hour + dry time

Directions

Step 1

Spritz Fireworks Spray in Grape Jelly and Bamboo Leaves on the Craft Mat. Repeatedly dab a white cardstock panel in the inks until the panel is covered. Spritz Ink Potion #9 on the craft mat. Pick up the remaining ink with the second panel of white cardstock. This is a great blending technique because the contrasting colors will mix while still in the liquid form.

Step 2

Spritz Fireworks Spray in Angel Pink and Bamboo Leaves on the craft mat. Repeatedly dab a white cardstock panel in the inks until the panel is covered. Spritz Ink Potion #9 on the craft mat. Pick up the remaining ink with the second panel of white cardstock.

Step 3

Stamp two separate fairy images with Memento Luxe Tuxedo Black or VersaFine Clair in Nocturne. Emboss with Clear Embossing Powder. Die cut image.

Step 4

Use a selection of Memento Markers to color both fairies.

Step 5

Ink the Fireworks Grape Jelly panel with matching VersaMagic in Purple Hydrangea Ink. Die cut white and purple ovals in graduating sizes. Ink the edges of the white oval with VersaMagic Purple Hydrangea Ink. Die cut image and adhere with On Point Glue.

Step 6

Cut yellow cardstock to fit the card. Ink edges of panels with VersaMagic in Sahara Sand. Adhere the Fireworks in Angel Pink panel to the yellow cardstock. Die cut a second sheet of yellow cardstock. Cut the Fireworks in Angel Pink panel to fit. Adhere to the card. Adhere the die cut image to the pink panel. Add dimension to the dandelions with Wedding Dress irRESISTible.

Step 7

Stamp the phrase “Thinking of You” in Memento Luxe Tuxedo Black or VersaFine Clair and emboss with Clear Embossing Powder. Die cut and ink around the edge with VersaMagic Sahara Sand. Mat with a larger die and add to card with foam adhesives.

Step 8

Add the Fireworks Grape Jelly panel to a purple card and wrap with ribbon. Add image to card with foam adhesives. Stamp sentiment in Memento Luxe Tuxedo Black and emboss with Clear Embossing Powder. Die cut and mat with the larger purple die.

Color of the Month for May is Lime!

Color of the Month for May is Lime!

The Color of the Month for May is Lime. We are excited about this color challenge because we have a couple of bright green color swatches in the Tsukineko brands such as VersaFine Clair in Verdant, Brilliance in Pearlescent Lime, and All-Purpose Ink in Green Apple that are wonderful inks for your crafting projects. We think this Lime color is a fresh color to bring in the summer vibes. Create craft projects with floral images, picnic and food images or elements in a simple scrapbook layout.

Another fun feature of the Month of May is Project Swap! We wanted to do a different kind of art challenge and for this month. We matched up two of our artists and had them switch tutorials and create each other’s work or ideas. It has been a real treat to see the fun interaction between our team members and we are excited to publish the results.

Here is a sneak peek of a Couple of Swapped Projects!

Another event to look forward to in May is a Blog Hop!

We have teamed up with Precious Remembrance Shop for a Blog Hop on May 16th – 17th! So stay tuned for the details!
