Create an Awesome Watercolored Background with Kaleidacolor Ink

by Martha Lucia Gomez

Create an Awesome Watercolored Background with Kaleidacolor Ink. This handmade card also has a beautiful vellum sentiment embossing in Gold.

Remind someone that they are awesome with this Sea Breeze easy watercolored background with gold embossing vellum sentiment. The color challenge this month is sea tones. I decided to place my design on decorated paper and not over regular cardstock. I am using one of the sea colors included on the Serenade collection from Quick Quotes Scrapbook and the Kaleidacolor Inkpad in Caribbean Sea. It’s a perfect match to get all kinds of lovely tropical sea colors!

Skill: Beginner
Time: 30 minutes + dry time

Directions

Step 1

Cut the layer of decorated paper to 4-1/4” x 5-1/2”. Stamp the image background using VersaMark. Sprinkle on white embossing powder and shake off excess. Melt the powder with a heat tool.

Step 2

Ink your mat with Kaleidacolor Ink in Caribbean Sea. Mix and extend the inks by spraying some Ink Potion No.9 on your ink.

Step 3

Rub your stamped layer over the mix of inks. Let variation in color occur, and even allow some areas to have the base paper show through. That’s why we didn’t use white cardstock! Let the paper dry naturally or speed the process with the heat tool.

Step 4

With Memento Markers in Pear Tart and New Sprout enhance the sea colors on the leafy parts of your stamped image. Resize your layer and paste it over a whisper white card base.

Step 5

Stamp your message or sentiment on vellum using VersaMark. Coat with Gold Embossing Powder and shake off excess. Melt the powder with a heat tool. Paste the sentiment over the card with glue dots.

See How to Use Embossing Powder to Create Mermaid Scales

by Kassy Tousignant

See How to Use Embossing Powder to Create Mermaid Scales Joy Clair Stamps and VersaMagic DewDrops

In this video, I share a different way to use embossing powder and Joy Clair Stamps to create a beautiful mermaid scales background for this card. Start by embossing a piece of cardstock 5 times. Yes, that is right–5 times. This heavy use of embossing powder creates a thick fish scale look and feel. I love using craft products in new ways, always pushing the boundaries and this is surely an example of that.

How to Blend Different Stamps in the Same Mermaid Card Project

by Jennifer Vanderbeek

How to Blend Different Stamps in the Same Mermaid Card Project with VersaFine Clair

This Fintastic Mermaid card is one of those examples of how a color and a single image can inspire a whole project. This month’s color challenge is Sea Breeze, so I immediately reached for VersaFine Clair in Warm Breeze—a favorite from the first time I stamped it. That plus the Lovely Swirl background (which, when turned on its side, reminds me of waves) gave me a clear direction for this delightful little mermaid card.

One of my favorite parts of the process was mixing various stamps from different manufacturers but tying them together seamlessly by keeping the same non-traditional outline color throughout. Try it next time and see how it works for you!
