Let’s Make a Sympathy Card

By Anna Escalada York

Sadly, I needed to make a sympathy card.

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 1 hour (plus drying time)

Directions:

Step 1:
Trim a piece of watercolor paper a little bit larger than an A2 sized cardbase (4.5” x 5.75”) and watercolor smoosh the panel with Gray Flannel Memento Ink mixed with water on acetate packaging. Allow the panel to dry. Then repeat the process with Pearlescent Lavender Brilliance Ink and then finally with Champagne Delicata Ink.

Step 2:
Stamp stars on watercolor paper with Paradise VersaFine Clair ink. Repeat the process so make the blue of the ink darker. Then heat emboss with clear embossing powder. Then die cut with the corresponding die.

Step 3:
Press Blue Belle VersaFine Clair Ink onto another piece of watercolor paper and then use this paper to die cut the sentiment. Die cut two pieces of scrap paper with the same sentiment die and glue the three layers together for dimension.

Use the corresponding shadow die to die cut a vellum shadow layer and glue behind the sentiment.

Step 4:
Spray the background panel with Paris Dusk Fireworks! Craft Spray through a stencil. While the spray is still wet, remove the stencil and spray the panel with Summer Sky Fireworks! Craft Spray to move both colors of spray. Splatter some of the light blue areas of the panel with Paris Dusk Fireworks! Craft Spray. Allow panel to dry.

Step 5:
Trim the background panel to about 4” by 5.25” and then distress the edges with a pair of scissors. Press the edges of the panel into the Gray Flannel Memento Ink pad and then heat emboss with more clear embossing powder.
Next, glue the sentiment onto the center-right and the Star was attached with foam tape.

Step 6:
Stamp a sub-sentiment on a small piece of watercolor paper with more of the Blue Belle VersaFine Clair ink and then heat embossed it with more of the clear embossing powder. Then distress the edges with scissors and then press the edges into the Blue Belle VersaFine Clair Ink.

Step 7:
Attach the sub sentiment onto the panel with more of the foam tape. Then glue the whole panel onto an A2-sized white cardbase to finish the card.

Let’s Make A Floral Sympathy Card

By Helen Gullett

Hello crafty friends! One of the handmade cards I always have in my stash is the “sympathy” or “thinking of you” card. Today, I would like to share with you a quick and simple way to make this card using Imagine Crafts products, an embossing folder, and stamps. The cardmaking technique we will use is inking on an embossing folder to create that background.

Skill: Beginner
Time: 10-15 minutes

Direction:

Step 1
Dab some of the VersaMagic inks on the raised-side of the embossing folder. Try to blend the colors while adding them.

Add a piece 4 ¼ inch x 5 ⅕ inch heavy-weight white cardstock to the embossing folder and run it through the embossing machine.

Step 2
Stamp the image and sentiment on another piece of 4 ¼ inch x 5 ⅕ inch heavy-weight white cardstock using the stamping tool with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

Optional: you can color the image with alcohol markers, or any other coloring medium. But I decided to use this image in simple black and white.

Step 3
After stamping them, use the scissors to fussy cut the image and sentiment. You also can use a matching die, if you have it.

Step 4
Trim the embossed panel into slightly smaller than the A2 card base. And then add it to the card base with On Point Glue.
Add the flower and sentiment banner to the card with the On Point Glue.

Optional: Add some small gems to the card to decorate it, or you can leave as it is.

That’s my project for today. Hopefully, you’ll like this project and give it a try. Thanks so much for stopping by our blog today. Have a wonderful day!

Make a Hibiscus Sympathy Card with Creative Medium

2022_May_Neva_Sympathy_650x650

By Neva Cole

I am always searching for new ways to use supplies and tools.  Creative Medium comes in many colors, but the Iridescent Green creates stunning results on black paper.  The use of an Embossing Folder helps the layers of the iridescent effect really shine.  A few layered stamped images and I have a beautiful sympathy card to send to a dear friend.

Skill: Beginner

Time: 1 Hour plus dry time

Directions:

Step 1

Cover a section of black paper (with or without texture) with a thin layer of Creative Medium in Iridescent Green.  I used Imagine’s Squeegee to spread the layer across the paper.  The rubber edge was very helpful to get a thin even layer.  Set aside to dry, possibly overnight.  After it is dry it will still have a slightly rubbery texture.

Step 2:

Trim a section of the paper to 4” x 5 1/4” and pressure emboss with Sizzix Tropical Paisley Embossing Folder.  You can really see the detail in this photo.

Step 3:

Layer stamp the Hero Arts Hibiscus and leaves images.  Start with the lightest ink first.  For the Hibiscus–Radiant Neon Electric Yellow, Memento Cantaloupe, Memento Tangelo, and VersaFine Habanero.  The leaves are stamped in Memento Bamboo Leaves and Northern Pine.  The images are die cut twice more from white and layered under matching die cuts with OnPoint glue.

Step 4:

The sentiment from Unity Stamp Company is stamped in Versa Fine Habanero then heat embossed with Iridescent Embossing powder.  (Not shown) The image is die cut with Lawn Cuts Everyday Sentiments die.  One end is trimmed off square.  The banner is inked with an ink dauber and Radiant Neon Electric Yellow.  The edges are inked with Memento Cantaloupe.

Step 5:

Ink the edges of a 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” card with Radiant Neon Electric Yellow ink with an ink dauber.

Step 6:

The layers are adhered together with Tear It! Tape.  It adheres well with the textured layers of the card.  The two Hibiscus flower are lifted a bit with dimensional foam adhesive.
