Learn How To Make A Paper Flower Spring Card

by Elina Stromberg

Learn How To Make A Paper Flower Spring Card

Have you had a chance to try out the new Dewlets? Those little metal dies match perfectly with the size and shape of Dew Drops ink pads, providing you new possibilities for creative use of your favorite ink pads. Just stamp and die-cut a pile of drops in your favorite colors, and let the fun begin: You’ll be surprised how many different shapes you can make out of them! In this project, I created a spring theme flower card.

Skill: Beginner
Time: 1 hour

Directions

Step 1

Press the DewDrop ink pad on paper to create a drop shaped stamped image. The white paper will replicate the ink color as it is, but you can create exciting variations by using colored and/or patterned papers. Die-cut the drop images with a die-cutting machine, using Dewlets dies.

Step 2

Highlight the drop edges by painting them with a darker ink and a water brush. Let dry.

Step 3

Layer background paper(s) on a white card base using two-sided tape or glue.

Step 4

Assemble flowers. Cut flower stems from green paper. Glue on paper together with the flowers. Finish the project by decorating the flowers and leaves with a white gel pen. Optional: Add more contrast and shadowing with coloring pencils. Do not color the entire die-cut drop, but only add a hint of a darker shade on the edges.

Learn How To Make A New Years Eve Necklace And Earrings

by Kyriakos Pachadirolgou

The leaf shape of the new Dewlet dies to inspire me to create a piece of jewelry everyone can make. Combining two different colors of metallic sheets, a gold one and a silver using SHEET Metal from Imagine, you can shape a shiny but still elegant necklace with a matching set of earrings. This project would make excellent New Years Eve celebration jewelry.

Skill: Advanced
Time: 1 hour

Directions

Step 1

Cut leaves from the SHEET Metal ATC cards and the gold colored aluminum foil. For this set, you will need 10 pieces for the necklace and 2 pieces for each earring.

Step 2

Lay the leaves on a flat surface, place them in the desired design and take a photo to follow the shape later.

Step 3

Use the round shape embossing tool and press into the leaves to create a hammered look.

Step 4

Set a small piece of Tear It! Tape on the back side of each leaf and add a drop of jewelry glue. This step will keep the leaves together in order to proceed to the next one and allow time for the jewelry glue to dry well.

Step 5

To set the waxed cord you can either punch holes and use jump rings or you can just glue it to the back of the leaves. The second option gives a more a steady result on the form of the necklace.

Step 6

To make the earrings, attach two leaves together, punch a hole and place the earring hook.

Mythbuster: Creative Medium is Only Good for Mixed Media Projects

by Steph Ackerman

Mythbuster: Creative Medium is Only Good for Mixed Media Projects

When people think of heavy acrylic pastes like Creative Medium, they tend to assume it can only be used on mixed media projects. I would like to bust that myth by showing you that Creative Medium is also an excellent product to use in card making. Placing a light layer of Creative Medium on your paper can transform the look and feel of your cards.

Skill: Beginner or Intermediate
Time: 1 hour

Directions

Step 1

Creative Medium can be used to transform any paper. Here I used Creative Medium in Gold Metallic to add a gold shimmer to patterned paper.

Step 2

Use a palette knife to spread a light layer of Creative Medium on paper then place the paper aside to dry. Creative Medium will not wrinkle your paper and will dry flat.

Step 3

I used 3 different colors of Creative Medium in Gold, Iridescent Blue and Silver on assorted papers which consisted of stripes, small prints, and large prints, light and dark papers. Again, a light layer is all that is needed for your papers to achieve amazing results. Let the papers dry thoroughly before continuing.

Step 4

On the Silver Creative Medium backgrounds, I used an assortment of techniques. I used a brick stencil and spritzed over it with Fireworks Shimmery Craft Spray in Lilac Posies. On another, I used a large script stamp with VersaFine Clair ink in Nocturne. On another, I used the Scor-Pal to create the grid effect. As you can see Creative Medium works with dye ink sprays, stamping and scoring and it doesn’t affect the initial application.

Step 5

On the Gold Creative Medium backgrounds, I used a large brick background stamp with VersaFine Clair ink in Fallen Leaves, embossed snowflakes and lightly inked with Bahama Blue ink and, I used a star stencil with Silver Creative Medium. Each of these show again how you can completely transform your cardstock.

Step 6

Finally, I experimented with the Creative Medium in Iridescent Blue backgrounds. I used a Thank You embossing folder, then lightly inked with Memento Potter’s Clay. And the second one, I used Rose Bud with a floral stencil. So if you have cardstock or scrapbook paper you don’t particularly like or has an out-dated look, consider using Creative Medium to change it up and add some new life to them! Enjoy!

Learn How to Make a Card with Dewlets and Vellum

by Martha Lucia Gomez

Learn How to Make a Card with Dewlets and Vellum

Hello everyone! Today I am going to show you how to turn the Dewlet shape into a flower using vellum. Vellum is one of the most delicate and versatile papers. Not all inks work well on vellum and today I will share with you a complete card that I made using it with Memento Luxe ink.

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 1 hour

Directions

Step 1

Ink the vellum using two different colors of Memento Luxe ink in Danube Blue and Teal Zeal to create the background. Take a piece of vellum cardstock and apply the Memento Luxe ink directly with the ink pad. Do not mix the colors of the ink to avoid contaminating it with a mixture of colors. With an ink blusher distribute the ink over the vellum surface and fix the color with the heat tool or leave dry the piece very well. In my sample, I let the paper dry naturally.

Step 2

Take a different piece of vellum cardstock and cut eight petals or pieces from it using Dewlets. They are fantastic because you can use them to create different flowers or forms just like I made on my card.

Step 3

Ink all Dewlets with one single color directly with the Memento Luxe ink pad or with the ink blusher or sponge. When the ink is totally dry fold in a half each Dewlet as you can see on the above photo.

Step 4

To finalize the card resize the colored vellum layer with a die cut and stamp your sentiment using the same Memento Luxe Ink or Delicata Ink. This ink works great on vellum and you only need to set the ink with the heat tool. I stamped my message using the Delicata Ink Sapphire Blue and covered with Sparkle Embossing Powder. A tip that works well for me to heat emboss on vellum is head the paper for the back side and keeping a good distance.

Step 5

To create the base of the card I used whisper white cardstock and dry embossed the top of the card with the Softly Falling embossing folder. Then I arranged all the Dewlets and pasted it with glue dots. You can use any color of Memento Luxe to create this technique but for my experience with vellum is a good idea to mix clear and dark colors to keep the soft sensation of vellum.

  • Big Shot or any die cut machine
  • Vellum
