When you are in the middle of a craft project that requires inking small die-cut pieces it can get messy! Today is a simple trick on how to keep those fingers clean when using your favorite Tsukineko Inks and masking tape!
Masking is one of my favorite stamping techniques for cardmaking. It’s a simple way to create a dimensional look and feel, without having to layer and collage fussy cut images. For this technique you don’t need any special supplies; a stamp set, stamping ink, a few sticky notes, and your scissors will be enough!

Time: 30 minutes – 1 hour
Stamp the hot air balloon and clouds on sticky note pages. If the sticky part is only on a portion of the page, make sure to place your stamping close to the paper’s sticky border. Cut out the images.
Stamp the images you want to appear in front on your cardstock and place the fussy cut mask on top, then stamp the second layer. Use Memento in Tuxedo Black for stamping hot air balloons, and Memento in Summer Sky for the clouds. Leave the masks in place.
Color the background using two shades of Memento, Summer Sky and Danube Blue, and a jumbo dauber. Sponge on a hint of white acrylic paint on the inked surface. Remove masks.
Color the front mages with alcohol markers. Stamp sentiment text and the flying birds with black StazOn.
Die-cut a tree-line from dark blue cardstock. Glue it on the bottom of the card. Trim card to size, mat on a piece of dark blue cardstock. Attach to white card base using double-sided tape.
In this cardmaking project, I use VersaMagic Chalk Ink and ink daubers to create a beautiful blended sky. This technique can be used for various background blending techniques as the VersaMagic Chalk Ink blends. The kitty cat images and “Thanks for being there!” sentiment is from the Best Buds stamp set from Joy Clair Stamps which as several additional cute animals such as bunnies and turtles.

For the Month of May, we challenged our artists to exchange tutorials and create each other’s designs in order to see how each of our artists interprets style and choices. The receiving artist did not know who designed the project, nor did they receive any images! In today’s post, Martha writes the directions and recommended supplies list and Steph created the project.
This month we were given another team member’s project to re-create. What a great way to see how someone else approaches cardmaking! I love creating backgrounds using stamps and inks, but don’t generally have a lot of “white space” on my cards. I’ve always felt the need to cover white spaces. This project challenge taught me that you can use white spaces to create amazing projects. See how I did it!

Ink background stamps with VersaMagic in Cloud White on white paper and let dry.
Using daubers, ink panel with Memento in Morocco, Rhubarb Stalk and Peanut Brittle which should create a warm hue.
Cut the panel to fit the card. Save the scraps. Die cut a circle from the center of the panel and set it aside to use for a second card design later.
Ink a paisley stamp with VersaMagic in Cloud White. Stamp it several times in the circle. Re-ink paisley stamp with Memento ink in Rhubarb Stalk and Morocco. Stamp each color several times around the circle, stamping off the circle. Stamp phrase in center of the circle with VersaMark and emboss with White Embossing Powder.
Add the circle to a card placing it slightly off the card. Cut off the excess. Using the scraps, cut two different sized strips. Ink the edges of the scrap pieces with Memento Rhubarb Ink and add to the card. Add drops of IrRESISTible in Wedding Dress around the card.
Using the punched panel create a second card. Ink the die cut panel with Memento in Rhubarb. Add the panel to a white card base. Stamp the Mary Elizabeth Frye paragraph from Whimsy Stamps with Memento in Rhubarb on a smaller die cut circle. Mat with medium sized kraft die cut. Add to center of the card. The two additional dies can be size from the Spellbinders stackable sets. Stamp “With Sympathy” in Rhubarb Ink on a leftover scrap and mount with foam adhesives, slightly overlapping the circles.
These two card designs come together quickly if you plan to coordinate the original circle punch.

This papercrafting swap project was so FUN! I wasn’t sure how it was going to go in the beginning. After seeing my project interpreted by someone else, I couldn’t wait to create the project given to me. It is exciting to see how different people interpret and work with similar materials to create different craft projects. You can really see each person’s personality come out in their artwork. It just goes to show you that you don’t have to have all the same craft supplies to make something equally beautiful. Just use what you have! I would really love to do this again.
Memento and Brilliance inks are perfect for achieving watercolor effects. The inks stay vibrant and layer beautifully. It’s fun to play on watercolor paper and then cut out shapes with dies to accentuate your favorite parts of the background.

I have to admit that I’m bit rebellious when it comes to detailed project instructions. Reading tutorials and watching instruction videos is always very inspirational, but the projects I make are very seldom precise replicates of the original projects. In case of Arjita’s tutorial, it includes techniques that I’m not familiar with, so I followed the instructions more carefully in order to learn. But once I think I’m mastering the key points, I tend to go my own way, using my own colors, patterns, and supplies.
On this project, I used two green Memento colors for the background in Bamboo Leaves and Pear Tart. For applying the inks on the background, I used a brayer and decorated the inked background with Shimmer Creative Medium. The stencil I used was not the same as on the original project; I used ‘Corncob Etching’ from TCW.
My card is not as monochromatic as the original project; for coloring the stamped flowers I did not use the background color, but yellow Memento in Cantaloupe and Dandelion. The result looks different, but I’m quite happy with the outcome! I did not want to use too much black on my card, so the die-cut circle background is not black but dark green. My nesting Sizzix dies cut quite a wide border, so I narrowed it to half with my scissors.
