Let’s Make a Fairy Birthday Card

By Kathi Rerek

I recently saw a video where the owner of Lavinia Stamps created a card using Brilliance Moonlight White and a silhouette stamp to create a magical scene. I decided to bring it to the next level by creating a scene using Brilliance and VersaMagic inks.

Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Time: 1 hour

Step 1:
Place a piece of repositionable label paper onto a craft mat. Use a craft knife and a curvy ruler to cut the piece of label paper. Both pieces will be used as masks.

Step 2:
Cut a piece of Black Mixed Media paper to 5.25” square. Adhere one of the two masks horizontally across the square.

Use a Sponge Dauber to apply Hint of Pesto VersaMagic Ink below the mask. Remove the mask and retain. Heat set.

VersaMagic Inks are wonderful on dark backgrounds.

Step 3:
Adhere the second repositionable masks over the sponged green background.

Use repositionable tape to secure the largest circle-in-a-square stencil from the Circle Mask and Stencil Set to the image panel.

Use a Sponge Dauber to generously apply Moonlight White Brilliance ink to the circular center of the stencil.

Remove the stencil and heat set.

Step 4:
Keeping the repositonable mask in place, position the moon face stencil from the Moon Layering Mask Set.

Sponge Moonlight White Brilliance Ink over the stencil. Use a slight scrubbing motion to remove some of the ink from the moon craters.

Remove the stencil and the mask. Heat set.

Step 5:
Secure the image panel onto the stamping platform. Position the Fairy Dust fairy so that she’s sitting on the green area of the image panel.

Ink the stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair ink and stamp. Re-ink the stamp and stamp until you have a good impression.

Remove the stamp. Heat set the image panel.

Step 6:
Use Fantastix to apply Pearlescent Orchid, Lavender, and Sky Blue Brilliance Inks to the fairy’s wings.
Heat set.
Trim image panel to 5” square.

Step 7:
(Not Photographed)
Position the Birthday sentiment stamp facedown at the top left of the image panel. Position the Fairy Dust sentiment stamp facedown at the bottle right of the image panel. Ink both stamps with Frost Dazzle VersaMark ink. Sprinkle white detail embossing powder onto the sentiments then dump off the excess. Heat set.

Step 8:
Press two fingers onto the back of the polymer Stars stamp, ink the stamp with Moonlight White Brilliance Ink pad, and stamp. Randomly stamp the stars and the bursts around the moon.

Since the polymer stamp will stick to your fingers you will have more control of stamping. Your image might not be perfect, but that’s okay!

Step 9:
Use chalk pencils to add grass and flower stems to the green area of the image panel.

Step 10:
Use Fantastix or pointy cosmetic swabs to apply dots of Mango Madness and Pink Grapefruit VersaMagic ink to some of the tufts of grass/flower stems. Heat set.

Step 11
(not photograhed)
Apply tiny dots of On Point Glue over the “fairy dust” on the image. Shake some glitter onto the wet glue, Let sit then dump off the excess. Apologies for the lack of a photo.

Step 12:
Cut a piece of Raven cardstock to 5.5” x 11”, score at 5.5”, and fold to form a 5.5” square cad.
Cut a piece of the blue glitter paper to 5.25” square.

Use Tear-It Tape to adhere the glitter paper to the front of the card. The tape is perfect for this application as the back of the glitter paper is slick. Use Tear-It ! Tape to adhere the image panel to the blue glitter paper.

By Kathi Rerek

Greetings! It’s Kathi here to show you how to create fairy card with a magical shimmer using Memento Inks and Sheer Shimmer Sparkle Spray.

Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Time: 1.5 hours

Instructions:

Step 1:

Smoosh Paris Dusk Memento Dew Drop Ink onto the craft mat. Mist with water and use a paint brush to apply diluted ink to the right edge of a 5.25” x 4” panel of watercolor paper.

Repeat with Blue Danube and then with Bahama Blue Memento Dew Drop Ink Pads until the entire panel is inked. Heat set the panel.

Step 2:

Ink the Sheet Music Texture Red Rubber Cling Stamp with Blue Danube Dew Drop Ink and randomly stamp onto the panel.

Step 3:

Spray the panel with Sheer Shimmer Sparkle Spray. Heat Set and admire the sparkle!

Step 4:

Using a stamping platform, position the Trinity Fairy Clear Stamp onto the image panel. Ink with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp. You might need to re-ink and stamp to achieve a clear impression.

Remove the panel from the stamping platform and heat set.

Step 5:

Place the image panel back onto the stamping platform. Position one of the notes from the Music Notes Small Clear Step Set facedown above the fairy’s horn. Ink the stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp.

Remove the note stamp from the stamping platform. Place another note stamp from the same set, slightly to the right of the previously stamped note. Ink and stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp.

Remove the second note stamp from the stamping platform. Place the four notes stamp to the right of the other notes. Ink the stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp.

Heat Set the notes.

Step 6:

Smoosh the Rose Bud Memento Dewdrop Ink pad onto the craft mat. Mist with Sheer Shimmer Sparkle Spray.

Use a paint brush to apply the shimmery pink ink to the fairy’s wings. Heat set.

Step 7:

Trim the image panel to 3 5/8” x 4 7/8”.

Use a Sponge Dauber and Paris Dusk Memento Ink to edge the top part of the image panel. Use the Sponge Dauber and Blue Danube Memento Ink to edge the bottom part of the image panel.

Step 8:

Create an A2 card from white cardstock. Insert a piece of scrap paper into the card.

Use Sponge Daubers to ink the periphery of the white card with Paris Dusk and Blue Danube Memento Inks.

Step 9:

Cut a piece of black cardstock to 3 3/4” x 5”.

Use Tear It! Tape to mat the image panel with the black cardstock panel, then use the tape to adhere the matted panel to the inked card.

Learn How to Upcycle an Old Jar into a Mystical Fairy Lantern

by Roni Johnson

I don’t know any little girl that didn’t want to be a fairy when they were little…some of us have never forgotten that dream and love fairy’s to this very day. Here’s a way to sprinkle a little fairy dust in your home with this upcycled DIY Fairy Lantern craft!

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 1 Hour

Directions

Step 1

Wash and dry a glass jar that you will use to create the lantern. Cut a fairy silhouette or cut out from black cardstock. Apply a layer of On Point Glue to the paper die-cut. Apply a layer of On Point Glue to the die-cut.

Step 2

Press the fairy to the inside of the jar front. Note: If you have a fairy stamp you can exchange that for the fairy die cut and stamp it on the outside of the jar with StazOn Pigment Ink.

Step 3

Glue a bit of moss to the bottom of the jar so that when the lantern is lit it will look like she is standing in a bit of foliage or plant life.

Step 4

Stamp flowers images on the other 3 sides of the jar using StazOn Pigment Ink. Silhouette flowers work best but use what you have.

Step 5

Sponge Blue Hawaii StazOn Studio Glaze to the corners, top and bottom areas of each side with an Ink Blusher sponge and let dry.

Step 6

Sponge on a coat of Wedding Dress (white – dries frosty) StazOn Studio Glaze over the entire jar and let it dry.

Step 7

Sponge on a second coat of the Wedding Dress Studio Glaze on one side of the jar and immediately sprinkle with Mboss Sparkle embossing powder. Shake off the excess and reserve for the next side.

Step 8

Set the jar on the craft mat and heat the embossing powder to melt. Let it cool! Note: the jar will become very hot during this process. Do not try to pick it up as you will burn your fingers.

Step 9

Repeat steps 9 and 10 on the rest of the jar. When the jar is fully covered it is now time to move on to the lid. Sponge Piano Black StazOn Pigment Ink over the writing on the lid.

Step 10

Add desired embellishments to the lid and top of the jar. Wrap wire around an LED flicker light so you can insert it into the jar with ease.

You now have an amazing little fairy lantern to light your way! Use this tutorial to create decorations for a summer party, birthday or any fun outdoor event!
