Create Monochromic Butterfly Card with Bright Blues

By Jessica Lin

Skill Level: Medium
Time: 45 min

Hi everyone! It’s Jessica here. Today I will be creating a butterfly card with bright blue colors. If you are looking for monochromic card ideas, just keep reading!

Step 1:
Stamp a bokeh background using Stampin’ Up’s Beauty Abounds stamp set. The stamp uses a unique technology to create light and dark shades even though I am only stamping with VersaFine Clair Blue Belle ink. I also tried to use splatter stamps to create a different background and that worked well, too.

Step 2:
Die cut the bottom butterfly layer with white cardstock and the top layer with light blue cardstock. Then adhere the top layer to the bottom layer. Since this is an intricate design with fine lines, I adhered Stick It adhesive to the blue cardstock before die cutting. This way, the blue top layer becomes a peel and stick. Alternatively, you could use glue with fine-tip nozzles, like the On Point Glue.

Step 3:
Then I spritzed a generous layer of Sheer Shimmer Craft Spray in Sparkle to create a subtle metallic shine on the butterfly die cut.

Step 4:
Stamp the sentiment with VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink pad. This stamp is from Stampin’ Up’s Rooted in Nature set. I decided to cut around each word to create the tape label look.

Step 5:
Apply On Point Glue to the butterfly die cut, avoiding the overhang areas, and adhere to the bokeh background. Then mount the bokeh background to the card base with foam tape. Finally, adhere the sentiment with Tear-It Tape and embellish with some rhinestones, and the card is complete!

Let’s Make a Bokeh Birthday Card

By Helen Gullett

Hello crafty friends! Creating backgrounds is always fun, especially when you like something different for your cards. One of my favorite backgrounds is bokeh. There are a couple ways to create bokeh backgrounds but today we are going to do some stamping with any sizes of circle stamps you have in stash.

Let’s get crafting!

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 15-20 minutes

Direction:

Step 1
Cut out a piece of 8.5 inch x 11 inch white cardstock into 4 panels of 4.25 inch x 5.5 inch.

Add each color of VersaColor inks (Cardinal and Canary) to the cardstock with sponge daubers.

Blend in the colors as you add it to the cardstock to create the third shade.

Dry the inks with a craft heat gun.

Step 2
Stamp the circles starting with the largest size and then smaller size with a Memento Luxe Wedding Dress ink pad. Repeat the stamping until you like the look of your bokeh background. Make sure some circles overlap each other to create the shadow effect.

When stamping, you might notice the lines on the edges of circles, use a small blending brush or sponge dauber to blend in the white ink around to smoothen the lines.

Dry again the whole background panel with a craft heat gun.

Step 3
Cut the background panel with one of the rectangle dies.

Add the background panel to the card base (A2 size card) with On Point Glue. Add a couple of acrylic blocks on top of it to hold it down while the glue is drying.

Step 4
Cut out 2-3 white cardstocks with the sentiment panel.

Stack the cutouts together with On Point Glue to create a chipboard sentiment panel (thicker die cut).

Step 5
Dab the VersaMark ink all over the sentiment panel, make sure it covers the whole panel.

Add some of the MBoss Sparkle embossing powder (retired) on it and heat it up with a craft heat gun. You will have a sparkly sentiment chipboard!

Add the sentiment on the card with the On Point Glue. Add some acrylic blocks (or anything heavy) on the sentiment to hold it down while the glue is drying.

Isn’t it a fun card making technique to do? You can create with any color inks, or you can even do colorful bokeh and not only white. Give it a try and have fun!

VersaMagic Inks are Great for Stamp Layering

By Jessica Lin

Hi everyone! It’s Jessica here and I’m excited to share a patterned paper trick with you today. If you like to save scraps of pretty paper, but are unsure how to use them, I highly recommend trying out today’s technique!

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 30 minutes

Step 1:
The focal image of today’s card is this butterfly stamp from Watercolor Wings. It’s one of my favorite layering stamp sets of all time. I used Brilliance Sunflower Yellow for the base layer. Then I stamped the second and third layers with VersaMagic Mango Madness and Pumpkin Spice. I did add a fourth layer using Brilliance Galaxy Gold as well (not pictured).

Step 2:
Die cut the butterfly images with Bold Butterfly dies. Then adhere the tips of the butterfly die cuts with On Point Glue. This would create a string of butterflies for a surprise pop up mechanism inside the card (next photo).

Step 3:
To make the patterned paper background for the card front, trim your patterned paper scraps to 1 x 6’’. Then cut each piece diagonally to create long, triangular shapes. I used Stick It adhesive to cover the entire background panel and adhered the patterned paper pieces on top. However, you could use whichever adhesive you prefer. Once the entire panel is covered, trim off the hanging pieces on the edges.

Step 4:
Lastly, adhere the last butterfly along with any additional foliage die cuts. And the card is complete!
