Embrace New Change Art Journal

By Helen Gullett

– Hello crafty friends! The new season always brings something new that can surprise us. And new change brings hope, it can be beautiful. Let us embrace it with expectation. Today, we are going to make an art journal together.

Let’s get crafting!

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 30-45 Minutes

Direction:

Step 1
First step we are going to build the base watercolor background.
Spray randomly each color of the FireWorks! Shimmery Craft Spray.

Step 2
While the spray pains are still kinda wet, spray lightly some water using a sprayer bottle.

Let it sit for a few seconds and then dab off some of the water with a clean dry paper tower. This will create more texture to the background.

Dry the page with a craft heat gun. Make sure the surface is completely dry.

Step 3
Cover the page with some anti-static powder and brush it off the page.

Add the stencil on the page and secure it with a washi tape or low-tack tape.

Add the VersaMark Original ink to the page with finger sponge dauber and remove the stencil off the page.

Add some of the Gold Mboss Embossing Powder and heat set it with a craft heat gun.

Step 4
Randomly on the page, stamp the ledger pattern stamp with VersaFine Clair Morning Mist ink using second generation stamping technique.

And then using the stamping technique and ink, stamp the script pattern stamp on the page.

Dry the stamped images with a craft heat gun.

Step 5
Stamp the leaves branch on the page with VersaFine Clair Avocado ink.

Dry the stamped images with a craft heat gun.

Step 6
Put a piece of white cardstock on the stamping tool and stamp the butterfly stamp with VersaFine Clair Pinecone ink.

Do not remove the stamp and paper.

Clean the ink off the stamp with Staz-On All-Purpose Stamp Cleaner.

Step 7
Stamp the same butterfly stamp with VersaMark Original ink.

Add some of the Sparkle Mboss Embossing Powder to the stamped image and heat set it with a craft heat gun.

Step 8
On a piece of white cardstock, gently swipe the VersaFine Clair Pinecone across the cardstock.

Dry the ink with a craft heat gun.

Cut it with one of the Stitched Tag dies.

Step 9
Add the tag to the page with On Point Glue.

Put the butterfly slightly off the page, and then glue the center of the butterfly with some of the On Point Glue. Leave the wings loose.

Cut the extra wing off the page with micro-tips scissors.

Step 10
Stamp the words on a piece of ivory cardstock with VersaMark Original ink.

Add some of the Gold Mboss Ebossing Powder and then heat set it with a craft heat gun.

Cut them with micro-tip scissors.

Draw lines around the word with Memento Marker Rich Cocoa.

Step 11
Add some of the Tear It! Double Sided Tape to 3D fun foam to create your own 3D foam tape.

Add some of the foam tape to each word and add them to the page.

Add some of the foam tape under the wings also to give them a 3D effect.

Step 12
Dab some of the Memento Luxe Wedding Dress ink on the craft mat and spray it with some water.

Pick up the ink with a small round brush, and add some splatters to the page.

Dry the whole page one more time with a craft heat gun.

This mini mixed media art journal page is done. It has a combination of the shimmery background, sparkly butterfly, and shiny gold metallic embossed texture and sentiment.

I hope you like the page and give this tutorial a try. Thanks so much for stopping by our blog today.

Have a wonderful day!

Decorate a Gift Box Featuring a Beautiful Heat-Embossed Butterfly

By Jessica Lin

Skill: Beginner
Time: 30 minutes

Hi everyone! It’s Jessica here and today I am showing you a way to step up a simple technique:
heat embossing. Combine it with layering stamp sets to create images with extra dimension and
shine!

Step 1:
Die cut a butterfly and stamp the butterfly image with VersaMark ink pad. Cover the
stamped image with Jade Pearl Mboss powder. Heat set with a heat gun. TIP: To achieve
maximum coverage, re-stamp the butterfly image using a stamp positioning tool and heat set a
second layer of Mboss powder.

Step 2:
This Watercolor Wings stamp set contains many layering images. I stamped the second
layer with VersaMark ink also, but used the Gold Mboss powder this time instead.

Step 3:
Repeat the same steps for the third layer of the butterfly image. I used the Indigo Pearl
Mboss powder for this final layer. It’s a rich blue color that complements the lighter Jade color
very nicely.
This is the final look of the embossed butterfly. I really like the pearl shine from the Jade and
Indigo Mboss powders. If you have different colors and types of embossing powder, I highly
recommend using them with layering stamps!

Step 4:
For today’s project, I decided to decorate a gift box instead of making a card. I created a
belly band around the box using black cardstock and silver glitter tape. For the thin silver strips,
I cut two narrow pieces from the silver glitter tape and colored it with a grey Copic marker. You
can use any alcohol marker that you have.

I hope you enjoy this simple project and feel inspired to layer embossing powders to create new
looks. I really like this technique and I love experimenting with different color combinations.
Thank you so much for stopping by, I’ll see you in my next tutorial!

VersaMagic Inks are Great for Stamp Layering

By Jessica Lin

Hi everyone! It’s Jessica here and I’m excited to share a patterned paper trick with you today. If you like to save scraps of pretty paper, but are unsure how to use them, I highly recommend trying out today’s technique!

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 30 minutes

Step 1:
The focal image of today’s card is this butterfly stamp from Watercolor Wings. It’s one of my favorite layering stamp sets of all time. I used Brilliance Sunflower Yellow for the base layer. Then I stamped the second and third layers with VersaMagic Mango Madness and Pumpkin Spice. I did add a fourth layer using Brilliance Galaxy Gold as well (not pictured).

Step 2:
Die cut the butterfly images with Bold Butterfly dies. Then adhere the tips of the butterfly die cuts with On Point Glue. This would create a string of butterflies for a surprise pop up mechanism inside the card (next photo).

Step 3:
To make the patterned paper background for the card front, trim your patterned paper scraps to 1 x 6’’. Then cut each piece diagonally to create long, triangular shapes. I used Stick It adhesive to cover the entire background panel and adhered the patterned paper pieces on top. However, you could use whichever adhesive you prefer. Once the entire panel is covered, trim off the hanging pieces on the edges.

Step 4:
Lastly, adhere the last butterfly along with any additional foliage die cuts. And the card is complete!

Make a Butterfly Birthday Card

By Ceal Pritchett

Hello crafty Friends!

Today I am sharing some creativity using the Memento Dew Drops in rainbow colors.
To make my card, I used a faux watercolor technique that I will share the steps below.

Skill: Beginner to Intermediate
Time: 30 to 45 minutes

Directions:

For the background, you will need a water friendly piece of cardstock, like Bristol or heavystock which I am using. A background stamp, a rainbow of ink colors and a water mister bottle.

Step 1:
Randomly ink up the background stamp with the different colors of ink and ten spritz with water.

Step 2:
Place your panel of cardstock down on your craft mat, then place the inked background stamp that you spritzed with water over it and press down. Allow it to sit for a few seconds and then lift the stamp off to see the results.

Step 3:
Die cut the sentiment. I cut three of the backers in white and the sentiment once out of black. Adhere them together using On Point glue.

To finish the card, adhere an A2 black panel of cardstock to the A2 card base. Cut down the butterfly panel to 4 X 5.25 and adhere to black panel. Adhere the die cut sentiment in the center of the butterfly panel.

Products Used:

Imagine:
• Memento Dew Drops
Rose Bud, Tangelo, Dandelion, Pear Tart, Teal Zeal, Danube Blue and Grape Jelly
On Point Glue

Other Supplies:
Butterfly background stamp – Hero Arts
Happy Birthday Die – Honey Bee Stamps
Pitch Black cardstock – Hero Arts
120lb Classic Solar White cardstock – Neenah
Distress White Heavystock – Ranger

Let’s Make a Flowers and Butterflies 3D Embossed Happy Birthday Card

By Martha Lucia Gomez –

Hello crafty friends! Today, I have a different way to use your VersaMagic Ink Pads. You only need a embossing folder and different colors of ink to create a colored background.

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 60 minutes

Directions:

Select an embossing folder of your preference. If you use a 3D Embossing Folder, you will note a bigger difference in the background.

Step 1:

Select the colors of VersaMagic Ink that you want to use. In today’s card, I am using Purple Hydrangea, Red Magic, Mango, Ocean Depth and Turquoise Green.  Also select the embossing folder that you wanted to use.

Step 2:

Place the piece of cardstock behind your embossing folder before applying the ink to the embossing folder. With this you will see clearer how the colors will look on your background. Apply the ink directly with the ink pad over one of the sides of your folder. Remember that it has an embossing side and a debossing side. In my sample, I used the debossing side.

Insert the piece of cardstock inside of your embossing folder and pass it through the die cut machine before the ink dries.

Step 3:

To enhance the details that were not covered by the ink, you can use the Sheer Shimmer Stix Dauber. Just softly press the dauber directly over the details where you want to add the shimmer look. I used the Frost color to keep it neutral.

Step 4:

Now is the time to add the sentiment. I didn’t want to cover the colorful background, so I went for a large die cut sentiment. First, I inked a piece of white smooth cardstock with one of the colors used in the background. In my model it is the Turquoise Green. I applied it directly with the ink pad and let the paper dry naturally before the die cut the sentiment.

To add more contrast, I also die cut a tiny complement of the sentiment in a coordinated card stock. I pasted it directly over the large die cut sentiment using the OnPoint Glue.

Step 5:

Resize your layer and paste it directly over the card base using Tear it Tape. Paste the large sentiment over the colored background using crafty foam tape to add more dimension to the card.

Thanks for stopping by and remember, you don’t need to create complicated projects. Just use the best inks and let your creativity shine!
