Learn How to Create Christmas Magic

Share the magic of Christmas with silver embossed stars and feathers in a turquoise color. The interchange of stripes covered with Creative Medium and the stamped tracing paper with VersaColor add depth to the background and give a sense of a screen. The multiple layers of the Creative Medium used and then heated, create a rough texture on the paper.

Time: 1 hour

Directions


Step 1

Cover a piece of watercolor paper at least the size of the card will be used with Creative Medium Iridescent Turquoise. Use a heat tool to dry and overheat the paper. The Creative Medium will start making baubles. Repeat the process at least 3 times to give the surface a rough look.


Step 2

Cut stripes of the watercolor paper in various widths and in 6 inch long (one inch less than the card used here).


Step 3

Stamp the tracing paper with the swirls design of the stamp set and the VersaColor Turquoise ink.


Step 4

Cut strips of the stamped image in various widths and in 6 inch length.


Step 5

Use Tear It! Tape to set the watercolor and tracing paper stripes on the front of a card base.


Step 6

On a piece of watercolor paper, on the smooth side, color with the VersaColor Turquoise and Celadon ink pads.


Step 7

Stamp with VersaMark the same stamp design as above. Cover with Imagine silver embossing powder and heat set.


Step 8

Die cut stars in different sizes from the embossed paper.


Step 9

Make a circle of the craft wire, glue with hot glue and continue with the feathers.


Step 10

Use the On Point Glue to place the paper stars, while the main star, set it with some foam tape to raise from the front. Add rhinestones with the On Point Glue.


Step 11

Remove the words from the sticker and set them on a piece of tracing paper and then glue on the card.

Create a Beautiful Mandala Thank You Card

Exploring is part of this creative world, but not all of our readers are experts or have been following us for a long time so today I’ll welcome you back to the basics. A few months ago, I told you that if I had to choose one ink pad (in a hypothetical world), I would choose the VersaMark Ink. Today I am sharing with you one of the multiple reasons why I consider it my must-have product. We have inks in almost all colors but with the VersaMark Ink you create a watermark effect that enhances the color of the paper. I love this effect and love the subtle appearance it creates. In my project, I am using Sahara Sand cardstock and if you notice on the above photo the ink is the same as the paper, just a little darker to create more emphasis over the stamped image.

Time: 30 minutes

Directions


Step 1

Select your color of cardstock and ink your stamp with VersaMark.


Step 2

Stamp your image once, twice or as many times that you need it to obtain all the details and a darker color. In my sample, I stamped twice. Let the ink dry for a few minutes. And this multiple stamping is easier with a stamping tool such as the Misti Stamping Tool.


Step 3

Repeat the process to stamp the “Thanks” sentiment. But this time you can create a totally different effect using the VersaMark with Embossing Powder. You only need to ink your stamp with the VersaMark and then cover the stamped image with Silver Embossing Powder in my case or with any other color of embossing powder and melt it with the heat tool. VersaMark is an excellent embossing ink.


Step 4

To make my card more special, I cut the stamped sentiment with the corresponding die cut and stamped the complement sentiment making the same process. If you want to obtain a major texture you can repeat the stamping process all the time that you wanted…just don’t burn your paper!

Use Natural Elements to Color a Greeting Card

Got tea? I do and I like to make art with the left-over tea bag paper. After the tea bags dry, you can take out the dried leaves you are left with an awesome substrate. Tea bags are versatile, translucent, luminous, and have an awesome vintage look and feel. I made a card using tea bags and Walnut Inks Cornflower and Willow; both awesome inks look great on tea bags. Not only are you making cool cards, but you are upcycling your tea bags.

Time: 1 day for drying tea bags, 30 mins for the card, 5 mins to take apart and clean one tea bag

Directions


Step 1

Begin by allowing your tea bags to dry. I place my tea bags on a ceramic plate with a paper towel and allowed them to dry for several days. The color of your tea bag will be determined by the type of tea use. On this project, I started with a light color tea bag because it is Ginger tea.


Step 2

The tea bags are very delicate so a soft touch will be required to take them apart. Remove the tag by pulling it off. Remove the tiny staple with your nails. Rip open the seams. Take out the dried leaves by sloughing it off. Tear off the seams, otherwise, you’ll see it in your art. Do so, by tearing off the edges on the long side of the rectangle.


Step 3

Lay the tea bag on a nonstick surface; such an as craft mat, or wax paper. Spray a small amount of the Cornflower Walnut Ink on your craft mat and mix with water. Brush on the ink. Allow the bag to dry or use a heat tool.


Step 4

Repeat the same process in step 3, using the Willow Walnut Ink.


Step 5

Stamp or stencil images over a piece of scrap paper. The ink will go through the tea bag and stain your paper; it’s best not to stamp on your main card. The Willow Walnut inked tea bag was used to layer an image over the main substrate tea bag. Heat set.


Step 6

To adhere the stamped tea bag to the watercolor paper or main card, brush on a very thin layer of GlazOn Clear Layer Protectant to the back of the stamped tea bag. Finish the card by adhering it to the main card. I hope you enjoyed this project and will give it a try.

Prepare for Thanksgiving with a Cardmaking Tutorial

It’s October but before you know it you will be packing away the costumes and preparing for Thanksgiving. Why not be ready by delving into the colors, signs, and beauty of the season. Selecting 4 – 5 colors of Fireworks Shimmery Craft Sprays you can easily achieve amazing color combinations that set the stage for your projects. See how quickly and easily these Fall cards go together using backgrounds created with Fireworks Sprays.

Directions


Step 1

Spritz assorted colors of Fireworks! Shimmery Craft Spray on the craft mat. Be sure not to mix the colors – spritz them about the mat.


Step 2

Drag white cardstock across the craft mat. Spritz additional Fireworks on craft mat if necessary until the cardstock is covered.


Step 3

Allow the cardstock to dry, then spritz with Dandelion Fireworks adding color to the white spaces.


Step 4

Cut cardstock into 2 panels, each 4″ x 5″. Stamp leaf flourishes on both panels with VersaFine Clair in Pinecone. Add clear embossing powder and heat set.


Step 5

Ink the edges of the panels with Brilliance Pearl Beige Ink, then mat with brown cardstock. Add the panels to the cards. Add color to some of the leaves using Memento Markers.


Step 6

Stamp Happy Thanksgiving on leftover strips of the cardstock with VersaFine Pinecone Ink. Add Clear Embossing Powder and heat set. Mat with cardstock.


Step 7

Adhere Happy Thanksgiving to the vertical card with foam adhesives. Cut apart Happy Thanksgiving for the horizontal card and adhere with foam adhesives.

Bring in the Fall Season with a "Blessings" Card with Memento in Rhubarb Stalk

The Fall Season has officially arrived and what better way to celebrate this change than to switch inks colors to rich tones and hues. In today’s card making tutorial, I am sharing a fall card created with an embossing folder, Memento ink and die cuts.

Time: 1 hour

Directions


Step 1

Select your favorite design of the embossing folder and ink the debossing part using Memento Ink. I am using the Leaf Swirl from Darice and Memento Ink in Desert Sand. Insert a piece of cardstock in your inked folder and pass the complete piece through your big shot or die cut machine. Open the folder and take out the inked, embossed layer. If you want to intensify the color, just re-ink the embossing folder and use the texture created on the cardstock to align the piece.


Step 2

Now take the embossed layer and rub softly with Memento Rhubarb Stalk – a fantastic color that matches perfectly. Let the ink dry.


Step 3

Resize your inked embossed piece using a die cut. I used the Stitched Rectangle Frame Die Cut from Cottage Cutz. The idea is to have a central embossed panel to decorate the top of your card.


Step 4

Using the same die cut, cut several layers of Very Vanilla cardstock. In my project, I used four layers. Paste one of the frames created over the card base. Then paste the rectangle inked panel inside of the frame and paste all the additional frames. For this step, the On Point Glue works wonderfully. Select a die-cut word (here I used “blessings” from Gina Marie Designs) and cut out as many words as you have frames. Stack the word die-cuts to match the frame height. See photo above for an example. This effect makes the card look like a box frame.
