Project Swap: Beautiful Floral Congrats Card

Welcome back for another Artist Project Swap with Kassy and Melissa. For the Month of May, we challenged our artists to exchange tutorials and create each other’s designs in order to see how each of our artists interprets style and choices. The receiving artist did not know who designed the project, nor did they receive any images! In today’s post, Melissa writes the directions and recommended supplies list and Kassy created the project.

Create a Congrats Card with a Floral Element by Kassy Tousignant

This papercrafting swap project was so FUN! I wasn’t sure how it was going to go in the beginning. After seeing my project interpreted by someone else, I couldn’t wait to create the project given to me. It is exciting to see how different people interpret and work with similar materials to create different craft projects. You can really see each person’s personality come out in their artwork. It just goes to show you that you don’t have to have all the same craft supplies to make something equally beautiful. Just use what you have! I would really love to do this again.

Memento and Brilliance inks are perfect for achieving watercolor effects. The inks stay vibrant and layer beautifully. It’s fun to play on watercolor paper and then cut out shapes with dies to accentuate your favorite parts of the background.

Project Swap: Inspire with Herringbone Art

Project Swap: Inspire with Herringbone Art

Welcome to another set for our Artist Project Swap with Nadine and Roni. For the Month of May, we challenged our artists to exchange tutorials and create each other’s designs in order to see how each of our artists interprets style and choices. The receiving artist did not know who designed the project, nor did they receive any images! In today’s post, Roni gives the directions and recommended supplies list and Nadine created the project.

I absolutely loved swapping projects with Roni Johnson! This project was not something I would have ever thought of making on my own but I really enjoyed making it. I didn’t have all the exact same products that she used but was able to improvise with no problem. Besides, I prefer not to copy something exactly and put my own twist on it.

I made a video showing how I created my project. Watch it below!

Project Swap: Create a Summertime Hello Card

Welcome to another set for our Artist Project Swap with Nadine and Roni. For the Month of May, we challenged our artists to exchange tutorials and create each other’s designs in order to see how each of our artists interprets style and choices. The receiving artist did not know who designed the project, nor did they receive any images! In today’s post, Nadine gives the directions and recommended supplies list and Roni created the project.

Summertime Hello Card by Roni Johnson

We had a little fun here recently at Imagine by challenging ourselves to an art swap. Each of us created a project, wrote up instructions and then Imagine swapped out all of the projects with a fellow Artist in Residence. I had the pleasure of working with Nadine Carlier’s project, as you can see it turned out amazing. It’s funny when we compared finished projects we even chose to use the exact same “hello” stamp!

Skill: Beginner
Time: 30 Minutes + dry time

Directions

Step 1

Cut a strip of white cardstock so it fits the width of a card and about 3 inches wide.

Step 2

On the strip, stamp a leaf image and a hello sentiment using VersaMark and then emboss and heat set it with white embossing powder.

Step 3

Kaleidacolor Fresh Greens and a brayer work best for this step. Use sponge daubers and individual green ink colors in varying tones as long as they are a water-based ink, for example, Memento inks.

Step 4

Slide the Kaleidacolor inks together and roll a brayer over the ink pad. Make sure to keep rolling in the same spot to not mix the colors up on the brayer.

Step 5

Using the cardstock strip roll the brayer lengthwise so the lightest ink color is in the center of the cardstock strip. At this point, only half of the cardstock strip should have color on it. Don’t worry about getting full coverage on the strip, this is normal especially around the embossed areas. You actually want some white areas showing.

Step 6

Flip the cardstock 90 degrees and repeat the steps from 4 and 5. Once cardstock piece is completely rolled, you should have an ombre effect with the lightest ink color in the middle and with it getting darker towards the top and bottom of the strip. Because my brayer width was wider than my cardstock strip I had the darker ink colors rolled on my craft mat. Spray the ink left on the craft mat with water and use the mix as an ink or lift technique. This will create a texture effect. Repeat until you have the look you desire. Using a dry paper towel rub over the embossed areas to remove extra ink. Let your cardstock strip dry.

Step 7

Finish the design by adhering the cardstock strip to the front of a card base with Tear It! Tape. Add sequins, dew drops or tiny dots of irRESISTible Pico Embellisher in Clear or Wedding Dress. Enjoy!

Celebrate National Scrapbook Day with this Stunning Layout!

by Jowilna Nolte

Celebrate National Scrapbook Day with Stunning Layout!

Happy National Scrapbook Day! I love scrapbooking because it gives you a chance to capture memories with those you love. Another feature is you get to collage together beautiful images and colors to encapsulate those memories. In today’s project, I choose lime and purple as the perfect color combination for a young at heart! This layout is filled with interesting floral details combining some of my favorite ink products in a vibrant color combination. Enjoy!

Skill: Advanced
Time: 1.5 hours

Directions

Step 1

Stencil a circle background onto smooth white cardstock using texture paste. Leave the paste to dry. Create color by misting the texture with Fireworks sprays and leave to dry.

Step 2

On the second sheet of white cardstock create a background using Radiant Neon in Electric Green and Delicata in Emerald Green. Use the direct to paper technique to add the color. You can also add color with inkers for even more intensity.

Step 3

Once the background is dry. Use Delicata ink and stencil a pattern onto the background in selected areas. Punch  2½” circles from your background as well as some 1” circles.

Step 4

Mist the background with the same colors of Fireworks that you used on the background. Spray in selected areas to create a beautiful shimmer.

Step 5

Assemble the punched out circles, a photo matted on a black background, and cut out flowers from the patterned paper on the background to create your layout. Add a title like “drive” and additional embellishments like the stars and hearts to finish off the layout. Add additional Walnut Ink splats as well as colors ink splats using the Fireworks sprays.
