Project Swap: See How to Make Jewelry

Project Swap: See How to Make Jewelry with StazOn

Welcome back for another Artist Project Swap with Jennifer and Kyriakos. For the Month of May, we challenged our artists to exchange tutorials and create each other’s designs in order to see how each of our artists interprets style and choices. The receiving artist did not know who designed the project, nor did they receive any images! In today’s post, Kyriakos writes the directions and recommended supplies list and Jennifer created the project.

Not-So-Heavy Metals by Jennifer Vanderbeek

This month, we Artists swapped projects and I got to make this awesome necklace and earring set with SHEET Metal ovals and StazOn ink from directions by Kyriakos. This necklace and earrings set were so fun and easy to make and I’m sure it’ll be just as fun to wear.

How to Create a Pressed Flower Art Journal Page

by Jennifer Vanderbeek

How to Create a Pressed Flower Art Journal Page

Wisteria is one of my favorite flowers but its season is all too brief. This year I’ve preserved a cluster in my art journal on a rich bed of pigment made up of layers of Fireworks Sprays and Creative Medium, taking my color inspiration from the blooms themselves. Creative Medium both protects the layers I’ve built up and gives a perfect surface to build upon—it’s invaluable!

See How to Monoprint with VersaFine Clair

See How to Monoprint with VersaFine Clair

I’ve been curious to see how VersaFine Clair inks would work when used with a gel plate and finally made the time to give it a try. The rich colors meant I got very beautiful prints with each layer and the natural translucency of VersaFine Clair allowed me to build up some depth and color mixing between the layers without having to mingle the actual inks. Check out the video to see how I used VersaFine Clair and friends to create this sweet little bunny scene.

Watch a Video on How to Create a Marbling Look with a Feather Quill

Watch a Video on How to Create a Marbling Look with a Feather Quill

Sometimes when I sit down at the craft table I have a very definite idea in mind, other times it’s more of a general concept. Even when I have that definite idea in mind, though, it’s no guarantee that’s where I’m going to end up! Case in point: these backgrounds began in the direction of marble but ended up so very far afield. The fact that one has a definite camo look and the other a more delicate spring meadow is cool in and of itself, but when you consider I used the exact same shades of VersaMagic and techniques to get both, well, it’s easy to see how you can maximize your craft time by going with the flow!
