See How to Create a Mixed Media Master Board with Mboss

Master Boards are a quick and easy way to create a large supply of beautiful backgrounds in a single session. There are no rules, no limits and they are so much fun to make! Today, I’ll show you how to create a mixed media master board using inks, embossing powders and more.

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 2+ hour

Directions


Step 1

Select a piece of paper for the foundation of the master board. It could be mixed media paper, watercolor, cardstock or something else. I have chosen a sheet from a vintage atlas for this project.


Step 2

Scrape the smooth side of the Squeegee across the Cheerful VersaFine Clair inkpad. Drag the inked Squeegee across the paper. Repeat 2-3 more times.


Step 3

Continue to pick up ink on the Squeegee using Golden Meadow and Morning Mist VersaFine Clair inks.


Step 4

Apply Verdant VersaFine Clair ink through a harlequin stencil and Green Oasis VersaFine Clair ink over a square stencil using a stipple brush.


Step 5

Pounce VersaMark ink over a leaf stencil in several places over the page.


Step 6

Sprinkle Mboss Lucky Stars embossing powder over the ink; shake off the excess and return it to the handy space-saving pouch. Heat the embossing powder to melt.


Step 7

Stamp flower several times over the paper using VersaMark ink; cover with Yellow embossing powder, shake off excess and return it to the pouch. Heat the embossing powder to melt.


Step 8

Stamp various collage images over the paper using VersaFine Clair inks.


Step 9

Spritz Dandelion irRESISTible Texture Spray over the entire sheet and let dry. You now have a lovely master board ready to use for all sorts of projects. Below are just a few examples made using this single master board.

Learn How To Create A Color Wash Effect On A Card with memento luxe inkers

Following in the footsteps of fashions trends we explore the warm yellow that has the world looking all happy and sunshiny. I too have fallen in love with this Tuscan Sun color and who wouldn’t? I show you how easy it is to achieve this warm dark yellow effect by mixing colors, pastes, and watercolor techniques. Take a look at how I created this watercolor wash effect.

Directions


Step 1

I used Creative Medium, Memento Luxe inkers, and clear texture pastes to create my colored base.


Step 2

Mix Creative Medium, 2 drops of Dandelion inker, 2 drops of Peanut Brittle inker and a small drop of the clear glossy texture paste. Smooth the mixture out onto a piece of cardstock and leave to dry.


Step 3

Once dry the surface creates a plastic looking smooth effect. Use a Loopy Rings die-cut and cut out the basic shape to use on your card. The die-cut elements have this amazing plastic looking effect that is super strong because of all the product mixed together on its surface.


Step 4

Use On Point Glue to adhere the Loopy Rings die-cut to the front of your card base. Add drops from your inkers into an inkwell and add water. Using a large soft watercolor paintbrush, paint inside the circles to give a watercolor wash effect. By mixing the two colors of inker you can achieve the perfect warm mustard yellow.


Step 5

Finish off your card by using the left-over watercolor ink to splat drops of color onto your card. Add a stamped sentiment using VersaFine Clair Nocturne and a stamped shark image. Add pearls and diamanté.

Lots and lots of flowers make a girly scrapbook layout bloom! There are many ready-made flower embellishments in the market, but I prefer making the embellishments myself. That way I can easily make sure that the flowers have just the right shape, size, and color to match my project. In addition to punched and die-cut flowers, I like to use my flower stamps to embellish my card creations and scrapbook pages. Coloring and fuzzy-cutting flowers are pure crafting mindfulness!

Stamped flowers don’t have to be dull flat decorations. Once the flowers are cut out, I press them gently on the palm of my hand. This lifts up the petals, and when glued on is applied only to the center of the flower the finished look is lovely dimensional.

Time: 2 hours

Directions


Step 1

Stamp flowers and leaves on heavy white cardstock. When coloring with alcohol markers, use (black) Memento ink for stamping. When coloring with watercolors or watercolor pencils, use (black) VersaFine Clair or VersaFine ink.


Step 2

Color the flowers and leaves with alcohol markers, watercolors or color pencils. Use both lighter and darker tones of the colors of your choice. Add white highlights with a white pastel pen/charcoal pencil. Cut out.


Step 3

Trim two strips of patterned/colored papers, either horizontal or slightly slanted. Place a narrow strip on top of the page and a bit wider strip on the bottom. Adhere with double-sided tape and secure by sewing a wide zig zag over the edge. Using small pieces of tape fasten off the ends of the sewing yarn on the back of the page.


Step 4

Stencil light pink patterns on the background paper. Dab the ink through the stencil with a sponge dauber. 


Step 5

Stamp hints of texture on the stenciled pattern: Keep the stamp in your hand and bend it when inking and stamping. This way you can create small partial stamped patterns on the paper; you don’t want the stamped pattern to stand out too much!


Step 6

Stamp small embellishments on white or light patterned paper using the same VersaFine Clair color as was used on decorating the background. Cut out.


Step 7

Layer photo on pieces of patterned papers. Decorate photo with stamped and fuzzy cut images.


Step 8

Use a long ruler to align the title text letters. Grid lines of the craft mat will help in aligning. Plan the sticker placement carefully, as you will not be able to reposition them; they stick firmly on the photo! Press flowers on the palm of your hand to gently bend the petals. Glue on the page building clusters of flowers. Fold the leaves in half, put a drop of glue on the back and tuck under the flowers. Add small stamped and fuzzy-cut embellishments around the flowers.


Step 9

Write journaling on the page with a white gel pen.

Glittery backgrounds are the best backgrounds! I love anything glittery and the Sparkle MBoss is quickly becoming one of my favorite new embossing powders. It is a clear embossing powder with holographic glitter mixed into it. It’s perfect to add over any backgrounds because it doesn’t add any color, just shine and sparkle! Learn How To Use Creative Medium To Upcycle A Wooden Box

Preserving memories is a fun and rewarding past time but if you’re like me I like to keep little mementos as well. After every trip we take I end up with a little pile of goodies collected during our travels. I thought it would be fun to create a memory box to house all of these little treasures. Upcycling an old worn out box is just the ticket.

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 3 hours + dry time

Directions


Step 1

Find a suitable box for your needs. Garage sales, thrift stores or flea markets are an excellent place to start your search.


Step 2

Remove the insert from the lid (if applicable). Paint the lid insert with a layer of gesso.


Step 3

Make a skin from Copper Metallic Creative Medium. See our Make section for more details.


Step 4

Spritz the skin with Cottage Ivy Fireworks Spray and let dry.


Step 5

Apply a layer of Creative Medium to the lid insert and adhere the skin to the panel. Let the Creative Medium dry.


Step 6

Pounce VersaMark ink around the edges of the skin using a stipple brush.


Step 7

Sprinkle gold Mboss embossing powder over the ink.


Step 8

Shake off excess powder and return it to the bag for later use.


Step 9

Use a heat tool to melt the embossing powder. Set the insert aside for now.


Step 10

Remove the insert from the lid, lightly sand the box to roughen up the surface a bit.


Step 11

Apply a layer of gesso to the entire box, inside and out. I am using DecoArt Chalk Gesso in light green for this example.


Step 12

Stamp desired text and images on the body of the box using VersaFine Clair Inks.


Step 13

After the ink has dried, use a palette knife to spread Antique Creative Medium over the stamped area. Apply more medium in some areas, less in others, by doing so this will create depth and add interest to the finished piece. Let the Creative Medium dry. Use a Fantastix and your ink brand of choice to color the ruler yellow.


Step 14

Stamp and apply Creative Medium to the lid of the box just as you did in step 5. Use a stipple brush and pounce VersaMark ink on the edges of the lid.


Step 15

Sprinkle Gold Mboss embossing powder over the ink; shake off excess and return it to the bag. Use a heat tool to melt the powders. Repeat until all edges have been embossed.


Step 16

Emboss various elements which will be used to embellish the box lid. Here I choose butterflies and an ornate flower.


Step 17

Replace insert into the box lid. Use hot glue to affix the various elements to the box lid. Fill the box with all of the treasures you have found along your journey.
