Use Different Stamps to Create a Cute Scarecrow Scene

I love mixing and matching stamps to build scenes on cards and for this time of year I decided to create a Harvest Blessings theme. Using a few (or several) colors of inks and different cardstock, you can create a wide variety of cardmaking or scrapbook projects. As we head into fall, I decided to combine a scarecrow stamp with pumpkin stamps and a faux brick background to create a fall scene.

Time: 30 minutes

Directions


Step 1

Stamp the scarecrow with VersaFine Clair in Nocturne on a white panel. As I needed a mask for the next step, I stamped a second scarecrow and fussy cut it.


Step 2

Place the scarecrow mask on the main image. Stamp two different sized pumpkins by the scarecrow’s stake. Stamp the pumpkins again and fussy cut them to be used as masks in the next step.


Step 3

Place the masks on the main images. Stamp the brick wall with VersaFine Clair in Pinecone over the masked images.


Step 4

Cut the stamped panel to 4″ x 5 1/4″. Using a water brush, add color to the images with assorted colors of Memento. Quickly wash Delicata in Celestial Copper on the brick background.


Step 5

Use Memento Markers to add additional color to the grass and straw stamped images. Mat the panel with brown cardstock. Create a card from brown cardstock and add a checked background. Adhere the stamped panel to the card with foam adhesives, slightly off-center. Stamp the sentiment with VersaFine Clair in Nocturne. Die cut and ink edges with VersaFine Clair in Pinecone. Mat with a larger die and add to the card.


Step 6

To finish, add Shimmer irRESISTible to the pocket and along the pumpkin veins for dimension and shimmer.

Use a Creative Watercolor Technique to Stamp

Watercoloring is a very special technique that most artists use with a brush and watercolor set. In today’s tutorial, I show you how to use a watercolor technique and the Misti stamping tool to stamp a watercolor image instead of using a brush. Creating this effect is very simple if you combine Ink Potion No. 9, Memento Inks and Kaleidacolor Inks. Let me show you just how easy it is:

Directions


Step 1

Ink your mat with the colors of ink that you want to use. Be sure to not intentionally mix the colors, just ink the mat and spray it with Ink Potion No. 9.


Step 2

I am using a double step stamp set. One stamp is the border and the other is the inside layer. Stamp the border images with Peanut Brittle Memento Ink.


Step 3

Ink the solid image directly over the ink that you have on the mat and stamp it over your cardstock. If you want you can re-ink the image with the mat colors and re-stamp to create different tones.


Step 4

To finalize the card I stamped the sentiment with VersaFine Clair in Shady Lane and clear embossing powder. Then I resized the layer with a stitched die cut and pasted it over a card base. Easy and beautiful don’t you think? Comment below!

September Color of the Month is Sangria

September Color of the Month is Sangria - Imagine Crafts and Tsukineko USA

As we get closer to Fall we enjoy seeing some of the rich Fall colors come into fashion. For September we felt the deep reddish purple of a Sangria Wine would be perfect for the Color of the Month. Inks from the Imagine Shop that resemble Sangria include All-Purpose Ink in Vintage Wine, VersaFine Clair in Chianti, and Memento in Rhubarb Stalk. Be sure to collect some of these fabulous colors! In the meantime, we have a lovely tutorial for you to kick off September!

Our beautiful September Color of the Month is ‘Sangria’. That warm red color is a perfect choice for Christmas crafts, but it can very well be used for various crafting projects throughout the year. My ‘Sangria’ inspired project was a monochromatic dimensional flower card, on which the pretty red color really stands out!

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 1 hour

Directions


Step 1

Stamp flowers and leaves on watercolor or mixed media paper using ‘Chianti’ VersaFine Clair. Dab red ‘Rhubard Stalk’ Memento ink on the craft mat. Using the craft mat as palette paint the stamped flowers and leaves. Let dry. Fuzzy cut flowers and leaves and bend the petals gently with your fingers.


Step 2

Place a circle stencil over a sheet of white mixed media paper. Secure with small pieces of masking tape. Ink circle with two Memento colors; ‘Rhubard Stalk’ and ‘Sweet Plum’ stamp.


Step 3

To create patterns on the inked circle keep the stencil still in place, dab water drops on the ink. Memento inks are water-soluble so the inked surface will react with water. When you’re happy with the pattern, lift the excess water with a paper towel and let dry.


Step 4

Trim card front to the desired size. Heat-emboss the sentiment on the card, mat card front on a piece of matching ‘Sangria’ colored paper. Attach card front to a white card base. Glue painted and fuzzy-cut flowers on the card front. Decorate flowers with metallic seed beads.

Extra: To create a more dramatic look with the large flowers, bend them in the center and work the paper until the petals pop forward off the card!

Learn How to Make a Retiform Inspired Card in Lavender using Tsukineko's All-Purpose Ink and VersaFine Clair

Create a fun retiform inspired card in shades of Lavender and Pink with a hint of gold. This interesting technique created a fun grid-like pattern on the background filled with stamped images, but this variation uses a stencil and stamped images differently. Take a look at how to create this fun card in bright and vibrant shades.

Time: 1 hour

Directions


Step 1

Stamp flower images onto smooth white cardstock using VersaFine Clair in Nocturne and Twilight combined for an interesting effect.


Step 2

Gather at least three colors of All-Purpose Ink to add color to your flowers. I used shades of pink and lavender.


Step 3

First, paint the inside section of your flowers with the darkest shade, I am using Wisteria, with a small soft paint brush.


Step 4

Then use the All-Purpose Ink in Cherry Pink and paint over the Wisteria layer.


Step 5

Lastly, paint a layer of Orchid Odyssey over the entire painted flower – over both colors.


Step 6

Fill a water brush with half water and half Champagne All Purpose Ink. Shake the ink and water to mix together. You now created a glimmer brush for adding shimmer easily to your projects.


Step 7

Paint a layer of shimmer over the painted flowers and leave to dry.


Step 8

See the shimmer over the color – this looks amazing. Cut out the flowers around the edges.


Step 9

Use Gold irRESISTible Pico Embellisher and add detail to the center of your flowers. Leave to dry.


Step 10

Create a stenciled background using Memento Dye inks. Leave the stenciled image to dry.


Step 11

Over the stenciled background, add the retiform inspired inking. Position a scrap piece of cardstock over the background. Pick up ink onto a jumbo dauber using VersaFine Clair Purple Delight and lightly blend over the edge only.


Step 12

Repeat the stenciling and move your scrap cardstock piece each time at a different position. Repeat the inking using a second color like Fantasia for added interest.


Step 13

Trim the inked retiform panel to fit onto the front of a folded card and adhere in place. Stamp a sentiment in VersaFine Clair in Fantasia and adhere the flowers.

Check Out This Fun Mixed Media Door Hanger Project

Mixed media projects consist of a variety of projects in all shapes and sizes. Mixed media means you can mix an assortment of products to create a one of a kind piece of artwork. So decide on your base, grab some items from your stash, several colors of ink, a stencil and let your imagination flow. Create with no expectations and see what happens. In today’s tutorial, I put together a beautiful door hanger in a lavender and dandelion color scheme.

Skill: Intermediate
Time: 1 hour + drying time

Directions


Step 1

Paint door hanger with black gesso; alternatively use a black door hanger. Place stencil on top. Use Creative Medium with a palette knife randomly about the door hanger. Allow to dry thoroughly.


Step 2

Ink assorted chipboard elements with VersaMagic in Purple Hydrangea and Brilliance in Sunflower Yellow, or choose the ink colors that speak to you.


Step 3

Add shimmer by spritzing several chipboard elements with Fireworks Shimmery Craft Spray in Dandelion.


Step 4

Stamp a phrase using VersaFine Clair in Nocturne on a wood sign. Ink a portion of the image stamp with VersaFine Clair in Nocturne and stamp around the oval chipboard element.


Step 5

Using the doily as the base, determine the position of each element. Use On Point Glue to adhere the elements. Glue doily to door hanger. Wrap twine around the heart and adhere. Add twine to the stamped tag and adhere.
